Increasing number of trains going through Lakewood

On another post I read that more trains will be going through the city. My concern is not how many but are harmful chemicals being transported. Is the railroad required to let city officials know? Also is there a plan to respond if a disaster occurs.

Good point. Back in the fall, I requested a copy of the evacuation plan in case of train derailment. I never got any kind of response. According to my relative that works for DHS, this is public information and only certain parts of it are to be withheld (things pertaining to national security, terrorism, etc.). My relative also told me that in case of a train derailment:
1. Get as far the hell away as you can
2. If possible, run toward the wind (e.g. if the wind is out of the east, run east)
I suspect that the county and/or state EMA's have the plan on file. If you are so inclined you can contact them here:

I have confirmed that as of recently, materials such as propene, denatured alcohol, hot asphalt, and carbon monoxide are coming through on Lakewood railroad tracks.
