Should be interesting!

I don't think Council will be reviewing petitions though. They will be voting on Ordinance 17-16 which would repeal Ordinance 49-15 in it's entirety, if it passes. If 17-16 fails then 49-15 goes to the ballot box. Something like that...

Here is an interesting (and telling) sentence from the linked to City webpage story ... Council will hear arguments on both sides of this issue during its special meeting, slated to take place at Lakewood City Hall at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11.

Doesn't "both" imply "two?" I think there are certainly more than two side in this entire hospital situation. Not everyone is either BL or SLH. That's a pretty broad brush to be painting the good people of Lakewood with.

Considering that all the arguments have been thoroughly aired, isn't it up to Council at this point to either vote to repeal the ordinance they have already approved, which isn't going to happen, or vote to put the referendum on the ballot ASAP, which they have to do?

I suppose they have to offer to hear arguments, but really... let's get this show on the road.

Absolutely on the mark, Dan!

How much longer can Lakewood stand to drag this out? Once and for all, let the people be heard.

It appears that council is too chicken to sit up in front of those wanting to save the hospital and telling them that they will not be changing their original decision. When they say both sides, I believe they mean all the Build Lakewood people and mayor friends that will come scripted and ready to roll over those wanting to save the hospital. Come on council! Time to grow a pair! I believe it must be difficult to sit in front of decent people and spew more lies and BS without a "few friends" there to make you look better. Trust me, we already don't think much of you!

From all evidence, it appears:
1) They are manipulating the timing of the referendum to their advantage, whatever they think it is.
2) CCF is calling the shots.

CCF is NOT calling the shots. Summers, council, CCF and various others are working together. If Summers and council had taken bids on the hospital, CCF would either be gone or in a lawsuit. Remember Madeline Cain? God bless her.

Looks like all they are voting on is whether or not to repeal, in advance of the referendum, which they most certainly will not vote to repeal. Reading the repeal ordinance, it looks like they are obligated to vote in a public forum whether or not to repeal. The referendum, is, I assume, a fait accompli... no?

Yes. I think so. The only question is "when" the voters/electors will finally have their say.

I anticipate more lies and manipulation from Team Summers.

Remember the scare tactic lie that Summers/Butler/Madigan/Bullock/Pae told us about Issue 64?

Namely that if 64 passed the majority of registered voters and not actual voters would have to vote to close the hospital--it would "doom" the hospital that they wanted to close.

Just wait---Summers and the Bleeders have their webs spun and ready to launch tomorrow night.

Exactly Paul. Thing is, this is none of Council's choice. These "votes" of Council are obligated in the city charter due to the fact SLH has presented enough valid signatures to put the ordinance up for a public vote. If Council does not repeal 49-15, then it will be voted upon. SLH has forced Council's hand (again), just like last year when Issue 64 had to be put on the ballot.

Is anybody nervous? Is anybody sweating? I am now going to make a prediction, council will NOT overturn their decision. Boy, that was hard!

Ha! Ha! You had me going there for a minute. After they do not repeal it we need to enlighten some more people about how bad this deal is for the people of Lakewood and surrounding area, some of the people I have been talking to recently think that it is over. Other people ( who have been a majority) are really mad about what Mayor Summers, CCF and others have done. A majority of people in Lakewood want their hospital. I have heard a lot of stories ( firsthand ) about the problems closing the doors of the hospital have created in a short time. The elderly and many others are being abused by this lousy deal. See you at the special meeting tonight.

The five petitioners have JUST received notice, at 12:30 p.m. TODAY, that we have 6 HOURS TO PREPARE A 30-MINUTE PROFESSIONAL PRESENTATION TO COUNCIL TONIGHT AT 6:30.

How much advance notice did they give Cleveland Clinic docs for last April 30 big pow-wow??
