Saturday morning, a death was reported on West Clifton in front of Horace Mann by passer by Bill Hulligan, sending it in to the hotline.

Image

A red fox had been hit and killed as it crossed the street.

I believe this might be the fox that had a its den about 100 feet west of Vista Bridge.

Lakewood which has a rich and diverse selection of flora and fauna, loses an important member of the food chain.

Thank for the tip Bill!

That's Horace Mann, not Harding.

Correct, thanks.

This would represent one quarter of Lakewood's known red fox population.

Is the Vista Bridge the Train Bridge? We were walking our dog, a Redbone Coonhound the other night and he was going absolutely nuts in that area on West Clifton. Also in the summer we quite clearly hear foxes calling in the evening. I live on Granger closer to Clifton, our backyard backs up to the Clifton backyards---those yards are quite deep and there must be where some foxes go. This is a bummer, it's really beautiful.

"Vista Bridge" could be considered Train Bridge, as it is was the footbridge of the tracks.

There has been on of the foxes in the city in that area for a long time.

Another east of Lakewood Park, One on Madison, and one down by Clarence. They do not travel real far so that it is unlikely they are the same one.

Hopefully it wasn't this fox. This guy has been keeping the backyards of Riverway Drive chipmunk free since October 2015.

The Lakewood Observer has turned into "Fox News".

Nice photos!

He would be in the range of the Madison Fox, but I can't see it crossing I-90, via the bridge or crossing the road.

Hmmmmmmmm, another fox, makes sense, they have babies.

Thanks for sharing.

Pat and Jim-- I saw that guy a couple of months ago-- right after a diminution in the chipmunk activity in my backyard (which is across the street from Pat's)

Sadly, that's the first fox I've ever seen in our city.

A testiment, to which I have mentioned many times, " cross walks are badly needed in lakewood ". This is a needless loss of life in our neighborhood.
