3,468 signatures were submitted at Lakewood City Hall this morning petitioning for a referendum to reverse the recent Lakewood Hospital deal.
2,269 valid signatures are needed to put the measure on the March 15 ballot.

Considering the challenges, this is very impressive.

Way to go SLH!!!!!! That is extremely impressive, no doubt.

The major hurdle now is to educate the citizens on the ramifications of this ordinance.

Repeal the deal!

Vote Againstthe ordinance!

With sub-freezing temps and repeated snowfall, a large number of citizens who care about our city gave of their time and braved nasty conditions to obtain petition signatures. It is a testament to their dedication and tenacity.

The city and the Clinic may have the money and the power, but we have the heart and soul.

Game on--- How's this going to play out? In this primary we have a little incidental Presidential Primary for both parties. There are some local issues--a contested Prosecutor's race, a Health and Welfare Levy.

So, does the Clinic go nuclear--- heavy TV (for a suburban referendum) on a metropolitan media buy? Who are going to be the local actors in this? And, if there is any local (Lakewood centric) involvement against the issue--- WHY?

And, for "aspiring" local office holders-remember- what you do in the next 2 months can be drug up in the future.

Don't forget the Senate primary between PG Sittenfeld and Strickland.
If Hillary knocks Bernie out early, the Prosecutors race will be the marquee draw.
Cuyahoga County and Cook County (Chicago) both have embattled prosecutors facing primaries on March 15....that will be a national story as the Black Lives Matter movement continues.

Two choices for the BL group (CCF) do nothing or come up with some glamorous ads (heavy mailbox, sudden saturation Cox TV ads) showing a glamorous future for Lakewood.

Are you for Lakewood or for the Clinic?

As for your other comments, the entire political establishment (minus Skindell) will come out against this.
They bought into the Clinic's lies, and they will fight to protect it.

P.S. I think it best to avoid sweeping generalizations as to party affiliations in the hospital debate.

It is clear that Summers and Bullock are faux Democrats, but that doesn't mean they are doing their evil as members of the other party.

I'm sure that Rob Frost and company cringe at the suggestion that Bullock is really a Republican.

In my opinion, this should be a time for unity around the just and noble cause of saving lives, helping the under served and saving the City of Lakewood from its corrupt leaders.

Despite the red and blue t-shirt thingy, I know plenty of folks north of Lake Avenue who are sickened by our leaders and what is going on.

Its time for an up or down vote from the people of Lakewood on the future of Lakewood.

I know the PD isn't the most accurate with news, but a story today says that the petitions were filed too late and it will NOT be on the March ballot. Is this wrong?

Matthew like most in things in life, there is more to the story.

Now they can go to The Attorney General, who is also looking at the deal right now.

Damn it would be nice if it could all be yes or no. But then it all would have been easier had the residents been trusted all along.

I saw this in Fridays paper as well. Not sure how well the PD gathers their facts, but they got Pam Wetula's name wrong (Hetula anyone?) and she's the major player that handed the petitions over in the photograph that they took of the scene.
