Can The Hospital Lawsuit Be Tried Fairly in Cuyahoga County?

With the second postponement of the second pre-trial, I am seriously beginning to have my doubts as to whether or not the hospital lawsuit will be tried fairly in Cuyahoga County. I have been holding off but I cannot bite my tongue anymore. Through my research, I have discovered that:

1. Judge O'Donnell lives almost directly behind the Mayor. Since Judge O'Donnell lives in Lakewood, I feel he should have recused himself from the case at the beginning.
2. Several known close friends of the mayor have donated to Judge O'Donnell's past campaigns. Specifically:

Jay Carson (Civil Service Commission member) donated $250.
Leo Spellacy, whom I believe is the brother of Lakewood's ex-law director donated $250.
Murman & Associates, the law firm of a likely relative of a recent appointee to the Lakewood Public Library Board donated $250.
Joe Gibbons, a prior LHA member, donated $100.
McGinty, Hilow, & Spellacy donated $150. This is the law firm where the gentleman that hung the huge Summers banner on his house on Lake Ave works.

Also, I found it interesting that several of those involved with the mayor and the hospital deal have also donated to Armond Budish's campaign for County Executive.

Thompson Hine LLP (the first batch of lawyers that council hired for the hospital deal) in-kinded over $450 in food for a Budish campaign findraiser.
Lucinda Einhouse donated $50 to Budish's campiagn. She and her husband are very vocal BuildLakewood and Mike Summers supporters.
Chris Sinagara donated $125 to Budish's campaign. He was a member of Jay Foran and the mayor's Active Living Task Force. He is most likely a staunch BuildLakewood and Summers supporter.
Armond Budish's campaign committee gave $50.00 to one of Tom Bullock's political campaigns.
Armond Budish's campaign committee gave a $70.00 contribution to the Lakewood Democratic Club, of which Summers and most of his close associates are members of.
Armond Budish's campaign committee gave $2,500 to Fitz!'s campaign for governor.

All of this combined with MLM's interesting & almost overnight rise to fame in Budish's office makes me extremely skeptical now that a pre-trial has been postponed for a second time. I also find it interesting that several others who were in Lakewood politics now work at the county.

I am almost certain that some out there will rebut my skepticism, so I will sit back and prepare to be blasted!

I heard that Kevin Bacon also donated, but I'm not sure how much. As we all know, he is the friend of a friend of a person who once knew a friend of a person who donated to the campaign. So basically, this goes all the way to Hollywood.

I have to agree with Cameron on this one. You rant for facts, names and numbers, she puts them out there and you jump on her with fantasy and BS. Must be some of that stuff you learned in psychology class you talk about all the time.

Corey, as you have pointed out many times, the city is pretty small. So there are easy explanations for most of this. Does a $50 check to Bullock buy you anything? I hope not. But as Lakewood's best mayor ever* proved many times, State Reps cost about $3,000 and a bottle of Cribari. So let's not all act so innocent.

And tracking your logic closer to home Patrick, Summers contributing to Skindell's state campaign did not convert squeaky clean Skindell to a corrupt backroom politician.

And CCF/LHA spent a lot of money to get Summers re-elected and Summers really "likes" the CCF FHC/"ER" thingy.

This evening I was reviewing past posts on the Deck and came across an interesting post by Ryan Salo from July 18, 2015. He lists an article written on cleveland.com by Janet H. Cho from April 1, 2015 about the Global Center for Health Innovation. Fred Degrandis, former President and Senior Adviser at CCF was named to be the newly created role of Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer of the Global Center for Health Innovation. Degrandis was offered this position by Budish. Budish stated "Fred Degrandis is the right person to lead the efforts of the center." Smg manages the operations of the Global Center for the county.

I am hoping that some of our county officials are not a part of this Lakewood Hospital mess, however, I am beginning to think that this situation may involve more than we are aware of and perhaps deserves further investigation. FWIW

The Cleveland Clinic is the 800lb gorilla in the county. They do work in every community, and give money to many communities, businesses non-profits, etc. They give in such levels it would be foolish to not think it figures into some thoughts. Like the Cleveland Foundation, another group that gives heavily into all sorts of projects in all sorts of communities. With Billions to invest, in their plans, they also are true heavy weights in this area, and their influence is felt everywhere. These are facts of nature, and will not disappear.

For the most part both groups have high ideals, and big agendas.

Any ethics violations can be reported to the State Attorney General, even anonymously. But one does have to remember, that just because all Lakewood Council people give to all other Council People, make them corrupt. But it can give one pause to stop and think.

With my posting of Mayor Summers and the Sinagras, I meant no slam, just as I have pointed out before, to not consider it, would be crazy on our part, looking back at the history of Lakewood, and the county. Doing due diligence to make sure this is the best most honest deal we can get, only makes sense. This is the inherit problem with deals done in secret, mistrust. hen it is followed by misrepresentation, and a million dollar spin campaign, all of us should ask to see the background paperwork. After all it is not a secret any longer, let's finish this deal in the light of day, with true community involvement.
