Smoldering remains of Save Lakewood Hospital movement

Post by Pasquale Manno »

For all interested, the Save Lakewood Hospital movement will be meeting at the library on Sunday at 4 pm.

We will learn what they're doing to recover from their devastating defeat on election day. Zero for three.

1. Summer reelected
2. Issue 64 failed
3. LHA board member John Litten elected to council (Oh my!)

That's triple ouch!!

To make matters worse, people are jumping off the SLH bandwagon en masse. The Save Lakewood Hospital signs can be seen sticking out of garbage cans around the city.

It's hard to see them rallying back from this. The momentum they had is gone.

A couple thoughts:

*The anti-hospital folks continually claim to be "bullied" or "victimized", then they post trash talk like this.

*If Mr. Manno REALLY believed the movement was dead, he wouldn't be posting here.

*The lawsuit goes on, as well as the discovery process. Everyone should support this, as we can learn more about lies that the Clinic has been selling to Lakewood (including the Mayor).

*Upon what exactly does he base his conclusion that people are jumping "en masse"? As mentioned, the group will meet again on Sunday...in fact, the Facebook group has grown since Election Day.

Mr. Manno, that was truly a remarkable post. Thank you for the insight.

Pasquale.

Let's look at some facts:

1. Summers is a defendant in a fraud and conspiracy trial and his white collar crime attorneys are afraid of him giving a deposition.

2. Madigan quit in shame and disgrace.

3. 43% of Lakewood voted against a "popular" incumbent Mayor who was endorsed by 10 of the 12 elected officials in Lakewood and whospent 8 times what his challenger spent--much of it on negative advertising and a fake paper--dirty campaign stuff. Not a remarkable victory.

4. 12 of 13 elected officials were against issue 64 and hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent against it but still 48% voted for it--the existing charter allows for the same thing-- not a great loss

5. 10 months and counting and Summers still can't get the Council votes to Bleed Lakewood.

6. How much money was spent to "win"?

7. A pending FTC complaint

8. The Ohio AG and other investigators involved.

It would seem to me that the SLH folks have a lot to be proud of so far.

I find it odd that some people take a perverse pleasure in the willful destruction of City assets, the loss of 1,500 jobs and the elimination of health care choice in Lakewood but I guess people take their pleasure where they can find it.

I was a bit surprised at the outcome. However, it was always going to be difficult to defeat the Cleveland Clinic. They want the City's assets, they want the Hospitals business in Avon and they want a health care monopoly in Lakewood. They are not going to get just yet.

The lawsuit continues, the discovery process continues and Save Lakewood Hospital will continue the fight.

One bit of evidence of the Clinics efforts to win this was the media blackout about the Lakewood Hospital issues. When is the last time you heard a newspaper saying two weeks before the election that they won't be doing any reporting on the election?

The Mayor's refusal to testify under oath is very revealing.

Mr. Manno, are you even a little curious about all the discoveries and the behavior of the Mayor and the Clinic?

The "smoldering remains" of Save Lakewood Hospital just had it's second largest meeting of the year at the library.

The movement is not going anywhere and is getting stonger, with many new faces in attendance.

This is not even close to over yet.

Sorry Pasquale! :D

Pasquale,

Thank you for your posts.

They help stir up the base of pro-hospital folks and give the Bleed Lakewood folks a false sense of "victory."

The Bleed Lakewood signs are virtually gone--they were political--only about money and things.

Most Save signs remain--they are about people--not politics and money.

Keep up the good work Pasquale--you are supporting SAVE!

The anti-hospital people will probably not get it until something happens to them or their loved ones. Does anyone really believe chief Gillman when he says that a squad run to and from Metro will only be eight minutes? I assume he is not counting the time that the squad spends at the person's home stabilizing them prior to transport, or the paperwork that needs to be done at the hospital prior to the squad returning to Lakewood. I can't imagine why Gillman would lie for Summers. I can only assume that he is getting a piece of the "bad deal".

No wonder he's so helpful, Pasquale Manno has received a "Community Recognition Award":

Perhaps he can tell who gave it to him, what it was for, and when he got it. They overlooked those details on the award.
