LHS Model UN Club Takes Top Awards at Conference

From club adviser Dr. Chuck Greanoff:

The Lakewood High School Model United Nations Club turned in a stellar performance at the Cleveland Council on World Affairs Conference Nov. 4 &5, winning eight awards overall. Junior Ian Bell, representing Finland in the High Commissioner For Refugees Committee, won the "Gavel" for the top delegate in his committee, and teamed up with junior Rachel Daso to win the Superior Delegation Award.

Also winning Superior Delegation awards were junior Evan Suttell and senior Alex Figueroa, representing Ethiopia in the Human Rights Commission, and junior Zach Dudzik, representing Cuba in the United Nations Environmental Programme. Seniors Emily Brown and Amanda Cabot won an Excellent Delegation Award as representatives for the United States in the World Health Organization. Seniors Tess Marjanovic and Kate McHugh won Honorable Mention for representing the United States in the UN Security Council. Sophomores Abe Dalisky and Kevin Cush also won an Honorable Mention, representing Germany in the Human Rights Council. Junior William Elaban and senior Zeke Dalisky, representing Germany, won the Position Paper Award for their committee, the Economic and Social Council.

Dr. G would like to recognize co-presidents Kate McHugh, Alex Figueroa and Tess Marjanovic for their dedicated attention to all aspects of running the club. Also, junior training directors Ian Bell and Rachel Daso for helping prepare members for the competition.
