St. Edward won the Holy War game at FFL Stadium today, defeating St. Ignatius 35-28 in the final game of the regular season. Cole Gest had three touchdowns for the Eagles. The loss eliminated Ignatius from playoff consideration, a rare occurrence over the past 30 years. The Eagles will play Cleveland Height next week in the first round of the playoffs.

I will have a full story in the next print edition of the Observer.
Here is my photo gallery, which is focused on the fans and activities that surrounded the big game.
Unfortunately Alex Belisle missed the game due to a family emergency, so you'll have to settle for my camera work.

As always, the game drew a packed house.

The Halloween timing brought out a lot of great costumes in the student sections:

These were the first St. Edward students to arrive.
For many old-time Catholic school alums, those nun costumes are scarier than Freddy Krueger. #rulerontheknuckles

Spiderman was one of the many superheroes in attendance

Santa made an early trip to Lakewood to check out the game.

Coach Ditka (who actually outranks Santa in Chicago) congratulated the Eagles on their win.

Sadly I was missing Alex, so there are no action shots.

I felt very puny standing next to all the "real" photographers with my cheap little camera.

Interestingly enough, the Rangers Friday night win got a lot of discussion on the St. Ed sideline.
I re-told the story of Friday's fourth quarter a couple times during the game.
Eagle supporters on the sideline were happy to see their "roommates" get a win.

I also had a some folks thank me for the Observer's coverage of the hospital story...they had some interesting comments on City Hall and the Clinic.
