Today you probably got in the mail, "Lakewood Hometown News," the latest brainchild of EX-Mayor Ed FitzGerald, better known for ruining his own political dynasty through ignorance and arrogance, and probably soon to be EX-Mayor Michael P. Summers. These two are simply despicable and deserving of the title Worst Mayors of Lakewood.
The Lakewood Observer is a blank slate, as is the Deck. Lakewood residents from all walks of life contribute to both. It is easy, there is only one real rule. USE YOUR REAL NAME, it seems easy enough. We have one other rule on the paper side, we will leave that for another time. ANYONE can and does have a seat at the adult table. You can say anything you want, as long as you are willing to stand behind it in a court of law. Seems simple so far. However there are two small groups of people that are afraid of sunshine, and are afraid of transparency and all of the problems it can create. I know most of us think it makes things better, but then you are honest, and not conniving people.
Many of our elected officials and many of our civic leaders are. Just look at who posts here. It is not the "mean spiritedness." Hell, on cleveland.com they are calling Councilwoman Madigan every bad name in the book. It is not because it is hard to do, all ages and all levels of people do it. It is because on the Deck, each person has one voice, and everyone is accountable for their own words. Something that some of the good men and women of this town not only fear, but run from. Seems odd? You can post what you want, you can place articles in print, all you need to do is answer for what you wrote.
No this City Hall, has always found it better to spend $1 million on spin and lies to the residents than even try the truth. This administration thinks nothing of squandering millions of dollars of public funds, into $34 million in private funds run by friends and the same people that drove the hospital into the ditch. Think about it, we can all sit at one table and talk like adults for free, or if you cannot take the heat, the questions, or even a chance that being honest for a moment could end a civil war, you could call up your mentor, to attack, belittle and undermine the work of over 11,000+ residents for 12 years, the Lakewood Observer, simply to to get yourself elected and your hands on the money.
Throughout the entire county, the Observer name has come to mean fair, open and balanced access to everyone. But that is not good when you are pulling a scam, is it?
I have said for years, City Hall has lost its moral compass.
I cannot answer if we need a hospital, but I know we need honest, strong, transparent and accountable leadership.
Ed and Mike, every other mayor has respected the office by retiring quietly, please do the same.
