Not sure if anyone's noticed, but Chief Gilman released a statement on the City Hall website about the recent firefighter video.
Predictably, it's an exercise in damage control.

Here is the video:

He calls it an "edited" video, implying that it's been skewed like the recent Planned Parenthood videos.
This is not true....the filmmaker had no political agenda.

He also dismisses the firefighters first-hand accounts, saying "these firefighters have in no manner been involved with the evaluation and review of the statistical data in relation to the proposed elimination of inpatient beds at Lakewood Hospital and the pre-hospital emergency medical care in Lakewood." In other words, listen to the General, not to the troops on the front line.

I fully expect these three firefighters will undergo some Soviet style "re-education".

The video and facts that City Hall does not want to see can be found at the thread entitled, "Brave Lakewood Firefighters Speak Out" at http://www.lakewoodobserver.com/forum/v ... =7&t=22191.

Note that the video keeps getting deleted.

For now, it can be viewed at the "Save Lakewood Hospital Official Facebook Page" at https://www.facebook.com/groups/430789747098494/.

The censors might attack again.

Let's return to what the Cleveland Clinic tells us - IN AN EMERGENCY EVERY SECOND COUNTS.

http://giving.clevelandclinic.org/artic ... ond-counts

"Every 15 minutes you can save, you're probably improving a patient’s outcome by twofold,” says M. Shazam Hussain, MD, head of Cleveland Clinic’s stroke program at the Cerebrovascular Center. “It could make the difference between someone surviving a stroke or not. Or being fully disabled or not.”

http://health.clevelandclinic.org/2015/ ... nd-counts/

“For every minute that passes, a stroke patient can lose about 2 million neurons,” Dr. Khawaja says. “So the sooner we can treat stroke, the more brain we can save, which can reduce the chances of being left with a permanent disability.”

In an emergency situation, every second counts. Each year, nearly 34,000 people from Cleveland’s West Side visit the Emergency Room at Lakewood Hospital, receiving the expert care and treatment they’ve depended on since 1907.

Another case of "shooting the messenger"! Call an ambulance, he just threw these innocent fire fighters under the bus!

Yes, and of those 34,000 visits to our existing ER, only 17,000 will be able to bee seen at the new FHC ER-per the Clinic's own documents. So, only half of the people visiting the new FHC ER will be able to be served there. That is crazy! Yet, Fire Chief Gilman says that "most of the patients transported by the Lakewood Fire Dept will continue to be taken to, and treated at, the new emergency room".

In my mind, "most" means a majority if not more than a majority. Does Fire Chief Gilman realize the new ER is only half the size of the existing ER and can only handle 50% of the expected cases? One half is not "most", sorry Mr. Gilman. That 50% amount is lifted directly from the Clinic's own proposal...uncovered during the discovery process of the taxpayer lawsuit.

Why isn't the Clinic building an ER that can at least serve ALL the expected visits?

Oh yeah, this is all about $$$ and monopoly, not healthcare.
