Does anyone know why the city administration is farming out city work to Mr. Beegen? He is running for council on November 3rd. It appears that like our building permits, now we are farming out architectural work to the administration's friends also. Just curious.

If I recall correctly, he has been affiliated with this type of work for many years. Maybe 6 years ago his name was on a list to give a quote for work that coincided with a City funded program. I do not think this is anything new or devious. Ended up going with Scott Richardson Designs.

Wouldn't this be considered a conflict of interest ?

Can't our city architect handle this? Maybe he is busy with the new wellness center. I would think it would not be proper to pick someone running for a council position. I'm sure there was someone else that could be chosen. It is just common sense. However, since the city architect can not handle his work load, perhaps the city needs to hire another one.

You're probably right, but maybe not until officially elected (if he wins) otherwise status quo as he is just a person interested in obtaining office.

If I remember correctly from something recent, think it was the PD videos, the farming out was and is during peak times, no need to hire someone full time just to cover 1-3 months of getting slammed with requests. Think it makes sense myself. Great thing about using Beegen, if that's who they are using, is that he is a local boy with a local company. Should we not support local businesses?

todd, aren't you supposed to be off the clock?

lori, who do you recommend for the work since beegen is so haliburtonish? and, as a side question, since your are so intimate with the subject...can someone running for city council still make a living?

Like a lot of things these days, it's probably best to give something like this a rest until after Election Day.
