Over the past few months, multiple parents have inquired as to why the Lakewood City School Board is not noticing as many meetings and is not going into as many executive sessions as we did in 2008. The answer is simple, we are not having as many meetings and executive sessions as we had last year. There are many reasons for fewer meetings ranging from the excellent leadership of School Board President Edward Favre and School Board Vice-President Betsy Bergen Shaughnessy to the fact that we successfully selected Dr. P. Joseph Madak as our next superintendent, and Dr. Madak has already hit the ground running by providing guidance to the Phase III Facilities Plan Committee and preparing the Lakewood City Schools for the 2009-2010 school year.

At last night’s school board meeting, April 6, 2009, I commented on these many inquires and pointed out that all of our recent school board meeting agendas are on our website. We have also been posting the recent minutes on the website and are now looking into how to effectively post the videos of our regular board meetings on our website as well.

Please be patient with us as we update our website. Communication & PR Specialist Christine Gordillo is doing an excellent job getting information to our webmaster, but we are still working out some kinks. We are aware that website maneuverability can be better and are resolving those issues. In the meantime, a current link to recent board meeting notices, agendas, and minutes can be found by clicking here for upcoming and here for archived. In the archived section, please look on the right side of the page and scroll down for the most recent meeting. Again, please be patient with us as we update this website.

We also update our Channel 74 programming, which was another topic that we addressed at last night’s board meeting. A current schedule can be viewed on the Lakewood City Schools homepage, http://www.lakewoodcityschools.org, or by clicking here.
