LHS Parents Report SAT-related Telemarketing Fraud
LAKEWOOD, OH – Recently it was brought to the Lakewood City Schools Administration’s attention that someone has been contacting parents of Lakewood High School students offering services to improve SAT scores. The solicitor’s method is to identify himself as an “LHS guidance counselor†and tells a parent that his or her child has checked off a box on a form indicating he or she wanted information on how to improve SAT scores. The caller offers a money-back guarantee to purchase a CD for $109 and asks for a credit card number, the child’s name and address. The caller even offers details of how to return the merchandise to a specific room in the high school if it is not wanted.
Lakewood City Schools finds this information important enough to ask the media’s help in spreading the word and warning other potential targets of this telemarketing scam.
