Dear Lakewood:
You are cordially invited to our Annual LHS Spring History Celebration. The Civil War is one of the defining events in American History. On Tuesday March 24, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, my Fresham AP US History students will be displaying their Civil War projects at the Lakewood Women’s Pavilion. The focus is on the causes and key events of the Civil War. Our students have worked very hard researching their topics and either creating a poster, preparing food, or preparing to play Civil War era songs.

We would be honored by your attendance!! Our students will be our teachers. (That's the case more often thn not) All the elements will be in place for a fabulous evening, including: inspiring, informative renderings of Civil War events; live music; a live reading of the Gettysburg Address; and of course, food--including cake. We will have a brief formal program at 730--the rest of the time is for eating, enjoying the fire, and browsing the posters.
Hope to see you there.

Wow Dr. G, this is a really cool new idea for teaching the Civil War. I wish that we had something like that when I took AP US History.

I will have to see if I can make it. Freshman are so very entertaining.

I hope it works out, it would be a neat tradition.

WoW!! Just got back from the Civil War display put on by LHS kids and teacher Chuck Greanhoff.

The rabbit stew was delicious, and the hard tack- Gary Rice----what was the name of your dentist?

Actually, this period in our history is regaining prominence in helping to explain our country's development. Harvard University's new president has written a book dealing specifically with the deaths of the Civil War and how that has affected our view of war since then.

There were a lot of students and parents and the Womens' Pavilion was packed.

Glad to say I'm an LHS grad (67)

Thanks Stan...Also, thanks to all the parents and community members who attended and to the Lakewood Historical Society, Paula Reed and Mazie Adams, for their presentation of authentic East Rockport artifacts.

The students did a great job, but that was not in the least surprising. I get to see their work ethic and creativity everyday.

I attended the Civil War Display - the freshmen class did a wonderful job of presenting history. It's events like these that make living in Lakewood such a pleasure - Dr. G. surely added to the classes educational experiences.

Also noted that a number of the students stayed behind and helped Dr. G. clean the Pavilion and put the tables and chairs back in place. :D
