Illegal E-Mail Lists?

This week I have received many many calls and emails asking if the Lakewood Obserever shares email lists with anyone. It seems that they are receiving an e-newsletter that they have never signed up for and are pretty mad, at their name being sold, or shared.
I can assure all, that the Lakewood Observer does not share, sell or barter our email lists in any way with anyone. We rarely use our email lists as we realize how everyone is bombarded with spam and unsolicited emails. We respect the privacy of those that have signed on, and will make sure our promise of never sharing your personal information with others is kept.
We have begun looking into how this happened as it is troubling for all, especially those of us with an online presence. After speaking with three families, it would seem that they have only shared their email with one other source, and I have a call in with that group, to see if they "illegally" shared the names.
If you have appeared on any email lists that you have not applied for, please let us know so that we can help stop this practice. Where many groups can sell, or exchange email lists, some by law are not allowed. Make sure you know the group's email rules before leaving anything.
Stay tuned.
