While icicles add a bit of winter glamor to a house and twinkle
in the sun like diamonds...
They can weigh more than 30lbs and could hurt or even kill
someone walking underneath them.
These are over my gate, going into the house!
They can also cause serious damage to gutters and roofs.
FWIW

Those icicles on the sign were meant for Jim.

This reminds me of the scene in "The Shining", where director Stanley Kubrick placed hanging kitchen knives, which hung behind the actors on the back wall in the kitchen, but directly over the boy actors head... as if Kubrick was hinting at danger.
One of the million reasons Kubrick was a brilliant director..and the movie is one of my all time favorites.

Have you ever seen the documentary "Kubrick's Boxes"?
In his later years Kubrick kept thousands of boxes of everything. Even
designed his own special box that would be easy to stack and go through. Not to big, not to small. It is a pretty wild story. I might have it on DVD.
Kubrick is one of my favorites, with Barry Lyndon being one of the
most beautiful movies ever filmed. But he as also a mad man!

The Shining is good, but slightly overrated, but the homages to it in other films/tv are great. 2001: A Space Odyssey is the better film.
Are those icicles normal on a house or are they a sign of bad gutters? Our house has some comparable to yours Jim, but the houses on either side of us are pratically bare....hm.....We also have a sheet of 3 in. thick ice coating our driveway...

2001! Barry Lyndon, his most beautiful work.

Sounds like bad drainage on your driveway.
Seriously, we have very large roofs that point south. Since the city tree hit the house and they thankfully removed the other two, there is nothing blocking the sun, so like your driveway it is a constant state of thraw refreeze, hence the icicles length.
It is more the sign of a lazy homeowner than bad gutters.
