Wow! The video is amazing. It looks great and the people running it seem very enthusiastic. As a former Hockey Mom, I think this will be a great asset to Lakewood. Congratulations.

How exciting!! The facility looks awesome. And slushies and Angelo's pizza really tops it off. There's no better combination to go with ice skating!!

I would love to participate in the Grand Opening, but knowing that there will be a huge crowd, I'll have to pass. I do look forwarding to visiting on a regular occasion though.

Winterhurst looks amazing, what a wonderful thing for Lakewood. My kids are so excited, so despite the crowds we plan on being there on Saturday. My 10 year old starts speed skating on Saturday and he says he can't wait. I really am glad that someone was able to come in and make Winterhurst a place that people will really enjoy coming to. And the fact that they will be serving Angelo's pizza is really exciting.

Serpentini Sponsorship: Right-wing nutter gone all centrist?

Facility looks great. Bravo.

Anyone know how much Bob "American and Proud of It" Serpentini paid to have his name tacked on to the facility name. And why? Has he changed is political stripes or just realized that his hate ads were turning off half of the local market?

I've been using this campaign donation website (www.opensecrets.org) to try and make sure my money doesn't go to right-wing nutters (like the Dominoes pizza founders and my son's dentist). Serpentini used to be a loyal supporter of Voinovich, but gave $1,000 to Stephanie Tubbs Jones last November.

And he was in the "front row" at the Dem debate in April. Video:

So what's the scoop on "Serpentini Arena?"

How much did he pay for the naming rights and for how long a period of time?

Why hasn't there been any discussion of this and how come no one knew about this prior to the unveiling?

It is not our worry.

We got our money.

It is like the Indiana Turnpike.

Not so fast, Jim.

Winterhurst is a Lakewood institution, a big piece of our history.

I've seen it referred to now simply as "Serpentini Arena."

I'm not digging it.

I guess Ed should have just let it close down.

I'm glad private businesses were willing to advertise to help make this project go.

Should all the ads at Lakewood High football stadium be taken down too?

Down with big business... wow.

Some people don't get how this world works.

I'm just not sure it makes much sense (business/marketing) to sponsor Winterhurst, considering Serpentini's locations are in Aurora, Orrville, Strongsville, and Tallmadge...far from Lakewood.

Yes, by horse, it would take a while to get to Strongsville, Aurora or Orville.. :D Hey wait a minute.... Doesnt Bob sell cars? :D

Sure Ryan, I see how it goes with "Quicken Loans Arena" and whatever it is they call the baseball field now.

So how much did he pay? Is it a secret?

Maybe next year, or whenever the terms expire, they can call it "Payday Loans Arena" or ABC Rental Center Arena." Just imagine the possibilities!!!

We are talking about Serpentini's.

Grace

The great part of this is, it does not matter how much they got. It is not our business anymore.

It could be "The Pro Choice Arena" it could be "The Gay People's Chronicle Arena" it would all be good for the city. Lakewood tried for years to attract sponsors to Winterhurst, The Skate Park, everything and anything that was Lakewood with no success.

We got the fireworks paid for, the rink fixed, and a company interested in Lakewood. Who know maybe we can get a Serpentini's, that would be good.

While we have every right to ask what Lakewood did with the money, we have no right asking what the new group does with theirs.
