Last night the police got called to an accident at 2224 Bunts Avenue. The caller said that a car had just hit his home. As the caller was talking to police the driver now missing at least one front tire, tried to drive away.

The police gave chase, as the car headed north on Bunts with police giving chase, then west on Madison. Finally the car drove into a parking lot on Belle and Madison where the owner of the car was arrested and taken to the hospital.

The driver was identified as "Mark R. Provenza, the Law Director of the City of Lorain." If this is true it would be his 4th DUI arrest. He has been found guilty twice before.

Jim---- I heard the whole episode transpire on the scanner. It seems that a good random placement of patrol cars as well as one car that was doing a version of triangulation right after having come off of a call, placed him right on the tail of the fleeing vehicle.

I decided to take a stroll up to the parking lot (a private lot for the residents of the apartments at Belle and Madison) to monitor the action. Lakewood paramedics were already on the scene along with two patrol cars in the lot and two on the street.

An LFD engine pulled up because there had been some spillage of fluids from the vehicle that had to be cleaned up. This is usually standard procedure for any vehicle fluids that might be harmful or flammable.

The carcass of that left front tire was on Belle, right in the curb lane by the bank.

Lakewood EMS squad transported the driver to the hospital.

Super fast action and and reaction on the part of LPD and LFD.

Total luck that it was just property damage (excluding any injuries to the driver for which I would have absolutely no sympathy).

Hi,
There are many dangerous drugs in the World. But I can only thing of a couple that are worse than alcohol.

Why is this guy still driving? For some that have a problem with drinking, I could never figure our why they are not required to have a Breathalyzer connected to the starter of their car. That would be much more effective than "party" plates. But I see he didn't even have those either and that's after 2 DUIs.
