Ohio House Bill 568, introduced by Representative Tyrone Yates of Cincinnati includes:

Sec. 955.111. (A) Beginning ninety days after the effective date of this section, no person shall own, keep, or harbor a dog that belongs to a breed that is commonly known as a pit bull dog.
(B) Not later than ninety days after the effective date of this section, a person who owns, keeps, or harbors a pit bull dog on the effective date of this section shall surrender the dog to the dog warden. Not later than ten days after receiving the dog, the dog warden shall euthanize the dog.
(C)(1) Beginning ninety days after the effective date of this section, if an officer has probable cause to believe that a dog is a pit bull dog, the officer may apply to a court of competent jurisdiction for a search warrant. The court shall issue a search warrant for the purposes requested if there is probable cause to believe that a dog is a pit bull dog.
(2) After obtaining a search warrant, an officer shall seize the pit bull dog and surrender the dog to the dog warden. Not later than ten days after receiving the dog, the dog warden shall euthanize the dog.

The American Kennel Club refers to this legislation as "Draconian" (http://www.akc.org/news/index.cfm?article_id=3506).

We also need to start fighting this on our own city level and then take it to the state.

Shawn Webster does propose HB366.
Once Lakewood steps forward to correct it's actions against these dogs,
we have to fight State Level.

www.canineadvocatesofohio.org
has updated information on the bills.

To that point, if you not particularly happy about the recent
track we have taken in regards to this, please email me
or baddoglaw@gmail.com

We are meeting for a change.
For those who are sick of hearing about the Pit Bulls, WAIT a minute and read the rest of the story !!!!

Official records gathered from our Council via the
Ohio State Public Records Laws or Sunshine Law

Has shown that the members of Council have discussed adding other dogs to the ban, they added in their discussions something that should tick off plenty of you that didn't care about the Pit Bulls or Canary Dogs because YOU don't own them, forgetting of course that all you need to do is have a Mixed Breed Dog that the "warden" or "police" believe looks enough like one, than the dog you got from the shelter that said

boxer/lab....lab/german shepard....boxer/beagle.....becomes a
"Pit Mix" .....then you understand what our fight was for in the first place.
It's NOT just about Pit Bulls folks, this is not just on Lakewood's level, it's State.

Council has discussed the following dogs, so if you own one guess what...you really could be next and guess what it's not JUST about the Pit Bulls. Well it never has been if anyone had paid attention to the verbage in regards to the "mixes" I believe more people would have rethought this..but that's the battle we begin fighting for now. Change.

So here are the dogs:
German Shepards, Dobermans, Rottweilers, Wolf/Hybrids,
and the big kicker the last line "and other large dogs"

Sorry folks.

We have people in this city right now, people on this board right now who DON'T OWN A PIT BULL, people who out of the kindness of their hearts adopted a dog that was said to be a mix.....and now they face the same heartache the Pit Bull Town Pariah's......So again you can stay tuned the will be a release tonight or tomorrow at the latest and if you were not interesting in fighting for issue before, you might want to now.

So again the email address box above is there to help.

If you are not interested in helping and could care less and want to tear this post/ thread up.....do me a favor email me personally and I will be happy to address it with you, but don't blow up the main email box because there are people out there who are very upset and who's hearts are broken we want to help.

I would appreciate someone not adding to the misery but clogging up our main box.....with your "obvious dislike" of any of us..or our cause. However, I am happy to entertain you all night long in my personal emails...let's have respect for our neighbors who are very upset by these changes and enable others to help them.

Thank you...

I'm not a dog owner, but my family is considering adding a dog to the household when our kids are a little older, and I'm particularly partial to Siberian Huskies and Malamutes, because I have bad knees and I intend to teach our dog to pull me up snow-covered hills so I can go sledding with my children. How long before someone suggests that such a dog is a wolf hybrid? Especially if I adopt it from a shelter or rescue instead of buying it from a breeder, in other words getting it from a place that can't certify that it *isn't* a wolf mix?

Dogs are all descended of wolves. Any dog is only as "tame" as it's been raised to be, some are just more tolerant of bad owners than others. Some of that is breed-specific, some of it is just individual variations. Chow-chows, for instance, are supposedly horrible with kids, but the gentlest dog I knew as a child was a Chow, and not an elderly one either.

Driven to extremes, a fork can be an instrument of murder. So can any dog, even one that fits in a purse. The only time I've ever been attacked unprovoked was by a dog that didn't even make it half-way to my knee (the dog bit my ankle from behind while I was walking down the sidewalk). A dog owner that doesn't properly care for and keep control over their pet is a public menace, regardless of the size/breed of the animal. I really hope our City Council understands this.
