I can't even begin to fathom why there are people out there who are fully intent on destroying the city that they live in.Jim O'Bryan wrote: In another thread, someone asked "Who would want to destroy Lakewood, who would want to ruin our property values, belittle the library, the schools and all the hard work of so many?"
Now ask yourself why?
For whatever reason, when I am bored at lunch, I read CL's Rants and Raves, and I am so puzzled and shocked by the stuff I read there. First, the disgusting levels of racism shown by some posters. Second, the outright reveling in the "Lakewood's going down and they deserve it" posts. I just dont get this attitude. I am guessing there is some latent hatred for Lakewood, for whatever reason, that it was seen as an affluent place and now it's got its issues. But some of the posts I see about Lakewood, I think, "Does this person actually ever visit?" Because I see none of this and I wonder where the hell these ideas are coming from.David Lay wrote:I can't even begin to fathom why there are people out there who are fully intent on destroying the city that they live in.Jim O'Bryan wrote: In another thread, someone asked "Who would want to destroy Lakewood, who would want to ruin our property values, belittle the library, the schools and all the hard work of so many?"

It's one thing to be educated about what's going on, whether it's through scanners, police blotters, etc. It's another to take that information and use it to run a campaign of fear.

Good CallValerie Molinski wrote:I digress. This convo should be moved to its own thread because it is just making something nice like the TOH mention of Lakewood into a negative discussion.
JerryJerry Ritcey wrote:Some websites discussion Lakewood might be in poor taste or even offensive but I'd be hesitant to criticize those publishing factual information. I also doubt that any website, no matter how inflammatory, will burn down the city. To have open debate means debating people who are both wrong and stubborn, but that's unlikely to change. I would say that websites had pretty much no influence on our decision to buy here in 2003.
