The Observation Deck

Anyone know what happened to Cleveland Freecycle? This was an amazing site that could be used to find nice homes for stuff that you want to get rid of but not bother with charging anyone for it. Kind of like the virtual treelawn, if you will. I used this a lot last year when getting rid of stuff not bought at a garage sale and also used it through my job to help families find some freebies like used refrigerators and stoves. Now the domain is gone!! Gah! Anyone know what happened to it? Anything replace it? I am not a huge fan of Craig's List any more and it doesn't do as well for freebies.

I don't know but that last time I tried to go on there I had major problems with the website.

I kept digging and found a Lakewood Freecycle using Yahoo groups and a new Cleveland one called Cleveland FREEACTIVE. Does the same thing. I think. I put some stuff up and a request so we will see what happens.

I am a proud freecycler! A few months ago the Cleveland group split into two (east and west) and they both seem to be thriving. Here's the link to the Cleveland West group:

No problem. A friend of mine turned me onto freecycle about a year and a half ago and it has really come in handy!

I think that FREEACTIVE group was started by a disgruntled freecycler. Something about being kicked off freecycle for trying to improve it or something along those lines. They have definitely been more strict about certain rules lately. There's a lot of moderation going on (editing, removing no-shows from the group) that didn't used to be there. But heck - if you're just trying to get your unused things into the hands of someone who can use them (and maybe pick up a thing or two that you need - for FREE!) I think it's worth it.

I haven't checked it out yet but I would assume, based on the a passionate email that the freeactive guy sent out to all freecyclers, that freeactive will be a great source as well.

Worked out pretty well. I don't subscribe to it as an email list, just read it as needed. I think most of their rules center around not posting too often for the email readers.

Being things suddenly became tight for us, due to our business closing, almost every item our little one has, uses and worn or wears came from that group. It is a true blessing. Great people in that group, we can't recommend it enough.
Glad you put up the westside link, we were lost there for awhile.
