We've gone to the reel mower and generally love it. The only thing I don't like about it is that the blades don't sit outside the wheels, making it more difficult to get to the edges of the lawn. We can live with that, though.
We've also purchased good quality mulch from Lakewood Hardware and some seeds for our urban garden.
I might also mention that we've had one gas mower repaired this year - and will be getting another repaired. We've already spent about the same amount as two reel mowers would cost...

I lucked out ... when we bought our house, it came with a reel mower! It works just fine, and yes, sometimes it can't get to grass at the edge of a garden or deck, but I can get around that. I could never understand how folks on my street, which have some TINY lots, would pay hundreds of dollars for a gas-powered lawnmower, just to spend 5 minutes cutting the grass. I've got one neighbor, it takes him so long to pull-start his mower, that I can do the front and back yard before he can get his running ... and mine doesn't take any gas, put out any emissions, and is pretty darn quiet. Unlike his.
I was actually at Ingersoll's on Saturday, buying some paint stripper, and the guy in front of me was buying a reel mower, and the cashier said that it was the second one they sold that day. Sounds like other folks are embracing the old-fashioned way, too.

+1 for Glenn and Lakewood Hardware. I'm so glad they set up shop here.
And also for Brian and the gang at Alternative Rental close by on Hilliard. They are truly awesome. I've rented there a bunch. And a couple of weekends ago I took in my string trimmer, Brian changed out that ungodly string contraption and replaced it with one that is much simpler to use.
Thanks fellas....

I'll second your post Tim!
The people at Alternative Rental are a tremendous asset to Lakewood. They have so many items to rent. Best of all for my family, they do quality small engine work. Our lawn and snow equipment is kept in top-notch shape by them.
I'm really glad that we have these two Lakewood businesses around!
