The Observation Deck

Yesterday, I was going up Riverside Dr. to Madison. When I got to Maile I saw a guy sitting on the inside of the guardrail. My heart started beating really fast and my stomach started to contract.

I grew up on Graber and I the only time I ever got spanked was when I went near the cliff and I did that quite often. I just wanted to see the park, but my parents thought that was a really bad idea.

Anyway, I pulled onto the next street, parked and and called 911. I explained what I saw and where I was. I gave all the information and then the rest of conversation got really stupid. Dispatcher "Can you see him" "No I drove a block away to call. "What is he doing" "I don't know I can't see him, I'm a block away on the side street" "Can you drive to where you can see him" "No, I don't want to scare him" "What's he doing now?" "I don't know I can't see him".

Then the best one, "What's he wearing" "A shirt with red, white and blue flag markings and a bandanna of the same material". "Any other distinguishing features" "YEAH, HE'S ON THE INSIDE OF THE GUARD RAIL, COULD YOU GET A CAR OVER HERE?"

A car was finally sent out and they got him off the cliff, but for pete's sake.

Do you know that he was intending to jump?

No, not for sure. But he didn't have a camera that I could see, so there wasn't really a legitimate reason for being there. That stone that is there isn't safe. There isn't much solid space there and it's unsafe.

Why would anyone put themselves in that position? To me it's comparable to standing on the railing on the Rocky River bridge. What would someone by doing there?
