There are these tv ads with old sitcom stars praising the benefits of Casinos in Ohio.

Legalizing Casinos is tricky business. They can only make money if there are limits to how many casinos there are. Who gets those licenses?

The promise of tourist dollars holds little weight. Tourists flock to Windsor and Toronto for more than just Casinos. There so many more ways to have a good time there.

I was conscripted into a pre-wedding celebration in Toronto a few years ago. The drinking age was 18. The beer was cheaper. There were people smoking marijuana all around. The female dancers all seemed to have masters degrees in science or humanities, speak 3 languages, spent years practicing ballet or gymnastics, and insisted on doing a lot more for less money than their american counterparts. When the bar closed down everyone gathered outside to walk to casinos or other bars.

Back when I was a powerful motel desk clerk men from around the country gathered for an Egg Incubator trade show in Medina. They would have a few drinks at the hotel bar across state route highway, then get ticketed by the police for walking back to my hotel.

The draw of most casinos are the new video slot machines. video slot machines are for people too lazy to scratch instant lottery tickets.

I'm laying 9-to-1 odds against gambling being legalized in Ohio. Anyone want in on that action?
