The Hogsback entrance into and out of the MetroParks has been closed due to erosion.

Thanks for the warning. Last weekend the parkway was closed just south of Hogsback because of flooding so we had to head up Hogsback to Rocky River Drive to make our way down to the stables. We will definately have to check the PAL line (440- 331-5963) before we head out from now on.

It has been eroding for about 20 years

... I hope that it gets a major make over like the other entrances have...
Thanks for the 4-1-1 DL

I spoke with the Metroparks yesterday about this issue. Crews will be out today and expect to finish today. If they don’t finish today, they will be working on Saturday to complete the job.

I thought one of the reasons that road was so bad was because Lkwd shared in its upkeep and was unable to pay for repairs and/or rebuilding the road. I thought I read that here last year, no?
Maybe the Metro Parks are just filling in the craters. Lkwd should watch and maybe get some tips then head over to Clifton...
Thanks.

Joe,
That is not true. The portion of Hogsback that is structurally failing is in Cleveland. The hill is maintained by the MetroParks. Lakewood's portion is the section on the west side of the hill. That section is bad, but not failing.
You may remember that Hogsback was part of a recent feasibility study paid for by the cities of Cleveland and Lakewood and the Cleveland MetroParks and conducted by Behnke & Associates, Inc. and Burges & Niple, Inc.
Download a PDF of the Hogsback Lane Study Here.
The next step is to fund the engineering drawings for the hill and take them to the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) that will seek funding from County, State, and Federal sources.
Common Pleas Judge Tim McGinty, Kevin Butler Councilman of Lakewood’s Ward 1, Vern Hartenburg the Executive Director of the Cleveland MetroParks, Stan Austin, Keith Johnson, and myself have been pushing for this improvement and enhancement. Nate Kelly, Planning and Development Director and William Corrigan, Engineer, both of the City of Lakewood, are also working on these improvements.
Steve Lorenz, Executive Director of Kamms Corners Development Corporation and the City of Cleveland’s Development Department are also involved with this project.
It is important that we contact our public officials and let them know that Hogsback in the Cleveland MetroParks is a priority. We are competing with other projects in Northeast Ohio and the State of Ohio. As my mother would say, “The squeaky wheel gets greased!â€

After being shut down, see the improvements made to Hogsback Road? You can see the larger "rough road" signs, and the new pile of dirt in the background.
