Signs of Spring

So with the cold weather almost finished I've started to notice more and more signs of spring.
The other day I saw a few Robins in my yard. I've also noticed buds appearing on my lilac bushes.
I know with all the snow we've had in March, I'm looking forward to April.

Robins are here year round.
Watch for these little guys to start leaving.

Good thread. What are some other signs of spring?

I noticed the robins too, and saw buds on the trees.
Ever since I was a kid the first sign of spring for me was seeing the daffodils break through. They were a good 4 inches high before getting buried in snow again.

I planted some crocus bulbs for that same reason. We have a ton of Daffodils and some tulips. We also split some peonies from a family member and look forward to having them more established this year.

Gardening is my weakness. I honestly have no idea what I'm doing although I made a resolution this year to try and learn a little.

We usually have a rule about how much we can handle (not much) each year.
Every fall, we put in more spring bulbs, so there is one season where the yard looks good. We put in a bunch of lavender, which thrives on neglect, for the most part.
Last year we put in a few strawberries and this year I have to find something to cover them. This year, we will have fresh strawberries. There is nothing better than that!
Anyway, there are a lot of fabulous gardeners in Lakewood, most are very generous with their knowledge and if you live near an Adopt-a-Spot, you are doubly lucky.

It is funny coming back from the east coast, I started to wonder where we buy our asphalt from? Everyone else seems to be getting much better stuff than us!

Saw some beautiful woodpeckers today. I'm not sure if they are signs of spring or not.
Are these common woodpeckers?
I have noticed robins all winter too. I always thought they migrated. Have they stopped. Are they no longer signs of spring?
Wasn't today beautiful?

Those are common Red-Bellied Woodpeckers. They, like the Robin, are here year round. They are not considered migratory.
This little one is a Downy Woodpecker. We see these a lot around here too:
Here's a Red-headed woodpecker. A bit less common, but here year round too.
Same bird:

Thanks Joe,
I knew if I posted it here I would find out - you people are a font of knowledge.
Don has more of these two in his photoblogs. Really cute pretty birds.
