Police Activity Last Night @ W. 150th & Lorain

When I was coming home from work last night (ca. 11:30), northbound on W. 150th, the police had the left lane blocked off with cones and cruisers starting at the medical center and running all the way past Ralley's and McDonald's to Lorain (about a block).

A police cruiser with no lights on sat in the med center driveway, and 4 cruisers and a police van occupied portions of the closed left lane, lights flashing.

Furthermore, there must have been 10 cruisers and another van across the street from Ralley's in the Kmart parking lot, all dark, not even headlights.

My first thought was something had happened at one of the restaurants, but they all had cars in the drive thrus and seemed to be operating normally. There were no signs of an accident or any civilian cars. No lanes were closed travelling southbound. I saw a few officers milling around, but nobody looked to be in a hurry.

It was such a weird site. About 15 police cars and 2 police vans, all apparently doing nothing except blocking the inside northbound lane. Does anyone know what was happening?

Similarly, but on a smaller scale, there was a call at Detroit and Lincoln on Wednesday about 9pm. 4 cruisers to attend to one car with 2 occupants. I guess on one hand I can appreciate the vigilance of the police department but it also gives the impression of serious activity where there may not be cause for alarm.

From what I heard in the bar last night, a sobriety check point was set up at that location.

I considered that, but I thought it was strange that it was on a Thursday and there were so many cops involved. There also typically are signs announcing the DUI checkpoint. But that has to be it.
