Photo of the year?

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

All

As we prepare to start year 4 of publication. I was cataloging photos and noticed we had a tremendous number of really good photos sent in. Then I saw one of the photos that have caused more discussions and notoriety than any other photo.

Made me think, what would be the photo(s) of the year? One of Rhonda's beautiful studies of style and design at the car show? Ivor's photos of rocks in a stream that are so full feeling they touch your soul? David Lay's professional coverage? Gary Rice's action photos? Joe Ott technically perfect shots, of something sent in from another contributor like this.

"SWAT Team Releases The Pigeon."

Image

The Swat Pigeon, sent in by Dave Skolnak, causes conversation where ever we go. Email, letters, calls, and conversations still talk about Dave catching the release of the Swat Pigeon.

Image

As you can see clearly in this enhanced version of Dave's photo, the pigeon is undercover, and certainly packing something.

Any photos or stories that caught your eye.

To everyone that has taken part, thank you.

I'm always on the lookout for the JOB picture titled "Face Front, Right, Left, now Fingerprints"

this one by Joe Ott gets my nod. When two of the soccer players collided during a match against Medina HS.

Sadly, the McDonalds shooter with the gun to his head is definitely the photo of the year.

Why am I not surprised that the DQ picture was brought up?

Sad.

Sharon

I have to admit the photo caused a lot of conversation.

No one had it right though.

It was a good discussion.

FWIW

While not as exciting as the SWAT pigeon, it did get the Lakewood Observer to a national stage. It also fulfilled one of my dreams of having photos in the National Enquirer.

Would not even be out there without Judge Pat Carroll, and his innovative way of sentencing offenders.
