It just struck me that there are no swimming pools here in Lakewood that people can use during the day.

Right right, you don't need a membership to go swim at the LHS pool, but they're not going to let people into the building in the middle of the day to go swimming while school is going on.

No wonder America is the fattest country in the world, because you need a membership to be healthy and memberships cost you an arm and a leg.

I agree. Also, as nice as the YMCA is (and if you can afford a membership), the pool really isn't as useful as it should be. It is too small to accommodate many lap swimmers, and the zero entry section is frankly boring compared to other community's rec center family oriented pools. Since the city has to look to the Y as a rec center, I wish there could have been a collaboration between the city and the Y. For example, you could have used the LHS pool on your Y pass for adult lap swimming and the Y could have hosted the swim lessons in a kid-friendly fun pool area more like the ones in neighboring communities. Just a thought.

Now we are going to get more adult gyms in the city, but we don't have much to offer for families/children during the winter months. Don't get me wrong, I use the rec center's programs, Winterhurst and love Lakewood park and the metroparks, but I am surprised that a city with as many people as Lakewood has doesn't have more recreation options for kids on a drop in basis, rather than an organized sport program. Especially with all of the childhood obesity problems in the U.S.

"I am less than enthusiastic to have a Gold's Gym & Crossfit Gym, to say the least. Give me a nice Recreation Center.....something my whole family would enjoy."

I couldn't agree more with all of you, besides Ryan.

At 58 degrees I wouldn't even get close to the lake.

The nice thing about being a college student is most schools have a good rec center. I wish Lakewood had one for everyone to use, not just on certain nights.

I don't know about weight lifting but a pool would be really nice. One that can be used in the morning, during the day or late at night.

We don't need another gym that's going to overcharge us to use the pool.

Ivor, I believe you can swim at LHS early in the morning. You could call the rec. dept. to find out . I also wonder if the Y would consider selling just a pool pass at a reduced rate. I know a lot of people that only use the pool but buy a full membership. Just a thought.

A removable DOME for the pool, possibly at Madison park, since it's smaller than Lakewood Park's pool, and would be less expensive to put up. Heat the pool and bada bing.

We have Winterhurst, which I went to when it was an outdoor rink, in my REAL young years, and once it became indoor, it became a year around asset, so a removable dome on one of the pools would be a great asset. Think of it, year around swimming, pool parties etc.

Instead of going swimming I made my family a nice French Onion Soup..

A dome would be fun. And YES a pool pass, monthly, or even yearly.

I like indoor pools more than outdoor pools so that would be great personally.

But we're one of the most walkable cities around. Why swim when you can walk for free?

I used to swim at the Cudell center pool in the 80s for free. There are too many crack heads around there now.

Brooklyn has a nice rec center on Memphis. But the parking lot would take up half a lakewood city block.

There might be room to build a center that size along the cleveland border, but then it would attract a lot of people from Cleveland.

The last dome Lakewood put on a pool blew away.

I think that it was an installation problem. They should try it again.
