The Observation Deck

I was speaking with a member of the media last night and he could not believe how nasty and divisive Lakewood Politics had gotten in Lakewood. We looked back and could not remember anything this bad outside the WestEnd Vote and Mayoral race 4 years ago.

Noting the the Observer was built to heal that Civil War, we both wondered if it could be healed again?

That is when we thought a "Post Election" Party, at the end of next week.

His thoughts were NO POLITICANS, I thought we should allow them but not allow them to talk about politics.

Thoughts?

The LO is overdue, but most of us are tied up through the 16th.

A good party, then maybe we can get rid of the hangover from both at the same time.

Really, it's divisive?

Can politicians really be in a room and not talk politics? I want to place my bet that it won't happen.

This whole election turns my stomach. When I see campaigners going door to door, I cringe.

Let 'em in...but kick 'em out the second they break the rule and make that VERY clear that will happen.

We had a longer, nastier, and more costly war in the early to mid 90's to pass a school levy. A bunch of well financed school opponents, a young "change" oriented city councilman (He had no understanding of public education, or our community.), and a slate of anti public schools school board candidates, decided to bring our Lakewood Schools to their knees.

I thought our schools would never recover from that, but fortunately, strong leadership on the school board, and unified public support, set a decent path for the future.

I just got all hung up on Jim's comment. My eyes were rolling around. I wasn't breathing right. All I could think of was that time of conflict, and THOSE PEOPLE, and...

This reminds me of those periods after near-strike teacher/school board negotiations; when eveyone always said "OK, let's all hold hands and be friends again and sing Kum..."

Humm...that sounds a bit like a certain banjo player we know.

What ARE we all going to discuss after Tuesday, anyway?

It has to get better. I had a tooth pulled and a root canal both this week. I'm not sure which was worse, those events, or the political campaign ads!
