It doesn't matter what your vote is, the issue will be thrown out because the supporters of the issue did not get enough signatures to have the issue on the ballot. The ballots were printed without the final count available.

I am not going to hang out at strip clubs, but to legislate a business out of existence is wrong. This is another example of a vocal minority causing econcomic harm to the State. see gay benefits, casino gambling, etc. Ohio is not the new Florida, but instead the new Alabama

It's really not the Same people.....Med Mart and convention are basically fueled here locally, county and city. This peice of...."legislation" is brought to you by those forward thinkers from Cinci, as identified by David. These are the same self-RIGHTeous souls that seek to legislate in all areas of morality. The backbone of Bush Republicanism, with the final irony being that the Republican party once stood for less government and now has done more during its tenure to make government invasive. Unless of course you're a CORPORATE citizen......

During the testimony in Columbus a group called "Dancers for Democracy" was exercising its right of political expression.

Don Farris and I had discussed the possibility of driving down to Columbus to give our complete support and undivided attention to this group.

I don't like this type of legislation either -- I wish I would have gotten a chance to sign the petition. I can't remember the last time I was in one of these "adult" nightclubs, but I do know that it was when I was traveling for business while attending a convention. Having ludicrous laws such as this, anti-smoking, no gambling, etc. will keep convention business away in droves.

I was at the Greektown Casino in Detroit on Monday. The whole time I thought to myself, "Why don't we have this here? This could be exactly what Ohio needs."

I don't understand why Governor Strickland is so anti-gambling. If so many other states have legalized it and reaping the benefits, why not a state that so desperately needs it?

It's just as others have said in this thread - politicians legislating their view of morality on the rest of us. This from the PD (regarding the recent ban on gambling machines):

"The governor called the issue an emergency, saying that in the last six months Ohio has seen the number of video machines grow from about 20,000 across the state to nearly 50,000 today. Strickland's order says the machines are dangerous and could spawn criminal and other illegal activity, though he could not yet point to any specific examples thus far surrounding the machines."

This just seems ludicrous to me - the government treating us like children.

Isn't that interesting. And it wouldn't happen unless there was a demand for them. And Columbus' myopic approach turns its back on the revenue that would be realized from the state franchise for legalized gambling. Meanwhile, people drive to Detroit, New York, Pa., W. Va. Indiana......Well, at least we can bill ourselves as an island of morality floating in this sea of temptation and sin!
