I've NEVER been a follower of baseball, and only a "once in awhile" type of the Browns, and a little more with basketball, but I must admit this year I have the Tribe Fever. The whole 9 yards minus the beer.

Just for the record they are a baseball team and not a tribe. I would love to see Cleveland win a championship, however the Chief Wahoo logo is taken by many to be offensive. I have spoken with many Native Americans who feel the logo does not respect them. The war drum, tomahawk chop, and red face paint does not reflect native culture.

Tribe also refers to a group of persons having a common occupation. But, you do make a great point. If Native Americans are offended (by the name and logo) then the Cleveland Indians should change the name and logo..

Dear Jimmy Buzzkill,

I'm sorry, but sometimes I need a distraction. And if I want to focus on the economy, I can watch a game at a local hospitality provider and drop a few bucks into the local economy.

I'm sorry if, unlike you, I cannot focus on the war 100% of the time. Were you focusing on the war sitting on Madison Avenue as part of the distracting Art Walk? Aren't the Arts controlled by millionaires that don't care? Should I then not appreciate creativity? Or only creativity that hasn't hit financial success?

I found particular comfort, the last time the Indians were in a post-season and Series run, because I could watch the games with my niece and her father as we prepared for my sister's funeral. Those games gave us a little breather from our intense grief. Jamie could remember how much he enjoyed watching baseball with his father and that since his father's death, he could no longer watch the games. He found a way to gently explore that grief. There was a sense of continuity and (again) comfort attached to simply sitting together watching a game.

Is it a distraction? Yes. So many things are.

Is there no value to sports? Think those folks competing in the Special Olympics feel that way?

And as far as worshipping millionaires, I'll plead guilty to being addicted to watching Roberto Alomar and Omar Vizquel. They performed their jobs with grace and beauty. Were they overpaid? No question.

I applaud your ascetic existence.
