Lakewood Community Festival Today

The Lakewood Community Festival is today at Madison Park from 11:a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
This is a fun, family event. Great food, a chance to get to know more about community organizations and a chance to see your friends and neighbors.

Great turnout today. Thankfully the rain held off!
The St. Ed's Trash Talkers were very interesting to watch. They're definitely a talented group of percussionists.

Mary Louise Madigan commented, while watching the awards for the Kielbasa Fun Run, "This is so Mayberry."
It's not the first time I've heard Lakewood described in such a fashion. I have a friend who grew up in Detroit who has told me many times, "You all act like this town is Mayberry". I always take it to mean that Lakewood feels like a small, friendly town, where people know each other (sometimes for generations).
This festival in particular has grown very dear to me because it is just feels like warm, neighborhood fun. And the food! The food is always so wonderful.
But so are my Lakewood neighbors.
Thank you to everyone who worked to make this festival happen (especially Melissa Garrett).

I was watching my neice and nephew and decided to walk over to the park to check out the festival. Was a nice time for them and us and a little escape from sitting around the house trying to entertain them.

J Hrlec-- next year take a couple of bucks with you and treat your neices and nephews to some really fine food.
My fav this year was the haluska (cabbage and noodles) from SS. Cyril and Methodius. Now, let me be precise. I've always enjoyed that dish as prepared by St. Paul Lutheran Church. But, this time I hit the SS. Cyril booth first and what did my eye behold but a GIGANTIC bowl of noodles dripping sauce. I'm thinking, maybe a contest next year.?
Both were great and isn't it a great festival where you can get Hungarian haluska and follow up with some Thai ribs
