Surveillance Cameras

I just saw on the news that Chicago installed 200 cameras in areas where there was criminal activity and it has decreased incredibly there. While I totally think Cleveland putting their money into that rather than on traffic tickets, I think even 20 cameras here in Lakewood could wipe out a lot of vandalism, park problems, and other crime. Who wants to hang out at a park with cameras if you are up to no good? Does any one know what something like that would cost and if Lakewood could ever do something like that?

I agree. Cameras at the very least at the parks and schools I think would help alot.

Who wants to hang out in a park where The Man is constantly watching them?

How would anyone even look into this and who would do it? There is no way groups of teens or molesters or anyone looking for trouble would want to hang in Lakewood with cameras up!

Don't we already have cameras in the parks? There are signs posted at both Madison and Lakewood Parks. I seem to remember a big press conference about it, but since then I haven't heard anything.

I did a little googling and this is what I found.
August 30, 2005
LAKEWOOD MAYOR THOMAS J. GEORGE AND COUNCILWOMAN MARY LOUISE MADIGAN TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE WEDNESDAY REGARDING NEW SECURITY MEASURES
Mayor Thomas J. George along with Councilwoman Mary Louise Madigan will hold a press conference on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Madison Park, 13029 Madison Avenue, to announce the new security cameras being installed throughout the city's parks.
So apparently the city has been working on this for awhile. I don't know how much it has helped though. Maybe someone in the city could give us an update.

Are they installed then? I never heard of them.
Joe,
It is working in CHICAGO so yes I think it could work in Lakewood and yes I have seen Dateline and fallen off the couch at the idiots. BUt yes I do think a few of them being caught on camera could catch them and send out a word or two. I totally believe it could help Lakewood. And Cleveland. I really do. And block watches, etc.

You want cameras? I know the guy.

He's an excellent guitar player bud of mine, but he has been in the home/business electronic security business for around 15 - 20 years.
What is slick about his setup, is it is computer controlled, records on something like a DVD, so if a crime was committed, the "frame" can be clicked on and close ups can be seen, a distant license plate for example or the time on a person's watch, anything.
If anyone wants to get in touch with him, PM me, and I'll hook you up with him. I won't put his name out in public without his permission, but I'll call him later and see if he'll either sign on the Deck or let me give out his phone number on the postings here.
