Kucinich hospitalized with apparent food poisoning

CLEVELAND - Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, who is a vegan, has been hospitalized with "severe" effects of apparent food poisoning.

The 60-year-old congressman from Cleveland became sick Sunday night while flying to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to address the national Longshoremen's convention. He went ahead with the speech Monday but immediately returned home and was hospitalized in the Cleveland area.

The name of the hospital wasn't disclosed. Andy Juniewicz, a campaign spokesman, said Kucinich was improving Tuesday night and said no medical update was available Wednesday morning.

Kucinich, a former Cleveland mayor, typically polls in the low single digits.

He may poll in the single digits, but he's managed to keep his seat and many of us are darned glad to have him.

What a funny article. Not that he is sick (and I hope he gets well soon) but the last sentence. What does that have to do with anything? He also gets elected by the majority of voters in his district, what of it?

It would have been just as appropriate to the story about ailing health to say,

"Kucinich, a former Mayor of Cleveland, typically bats left handed."

or

"Kucinich, who has an office in Lakewood, prefers Glidden over Behr."


Funny. Strange choice for the writer, but funny.

I agree. I've never been a Kucinich fan, but why in the world would you end the story with that dig?

Are his polling numbers responsible for his food poisoning?

I don't agree with the man's policies, but I do hope he's feeling better.

I am glad they pointed out the single digit issue. Here he is traveling all over the country while we are here with all of our problems and he doesn't have a snow balls chance of winning.

I hope he gets better, but maybe he should think about doing his job here rather than chasing the impossible dream.

I'll begin this post by stating my honest opinion is that, as a Representative, Dennis Kucinich is an embarrassment to himself and his district, but I have also heard from people that a have personal relationship[ with him that he is a kind hearted and caring human being so I want to join in wishing him a speedy and total recovery.

However, before all the liberals get their knickers in a bunch over the end of that AP story as someone who studied journalism in college I am going to try to give a possible explanation to why that may be included in the piece.
The story begins by describing Kucinich as a presidential candidate. Because the average person who may look at the story is not a politically savvy as the people on the Observation Deck they may have never heard of Kucinich. Therefore you include that fact to explain why he is not as well-known as Clinton, or Obama. Also most news stories are written in a style known as an inverted pyramid. The most important facts on top least important at the bottom. Most newspaper would chop a story like this down to fit into a news brief section and never run that last sentence anyway.
Think of it this way if Mrs. Clinton would be hospitalized she would probably be described as Democratic presidential front runner Hillary Clinton. None of us have any idea who wrote this story but I highly doubt there was any malice intended

I've been a fan of the Congressman for some time. Even though he may have no chance of being elected, sometimes a candidacy is not in hopes of winning, but in hopes of setting the elements of the discussion. That may well have a significant impact on what happens here.....

Having said that, I've got to admit that I was REALLY dissappointed when our Congressman (who had taken the same plane home with Sen. Voinovich) declined to attend the Library opening.....Don't think he's even been to the facility yet. Given the impact of the project on his district, I would have thought he'd at least show some interest in what's being accomplished at home.

He may not have attended the library opening but he walked down the street in the July 4th parade.

Sharon you are right, he is always around to look good, take credit and get votes, just not around when we need him.

Ryan - you have obviously not called Dennis's office for help. Right there, on time, concerned.

I have always been supremely impressed with his constituent services.

My point was he walked in the parade - working people, regular people.


Don't even get me started Ryan.

And for the record, I am constantly defending Dennis on some other boards (from the right winged Christians). Dennis has done a lot for this conressional districs. I do not agree with him on several subjects but he has good intent and serves this community well, in my opinion.

I am so happy he is running again. It would seem that most of my Democratic brothers and sisters have lost their way in the fog of war, Congressman Kucinich has not.

I know for a fact he had NO INTEREST IN RUNNING this time around. Very happy to concentrate on his new position in congress. But when the Democrats started talking like Republicans, for funding the war, he had no choice.

That day and decision cost him some good people, but he is still the only sane voice in the war.

As for not taking care of the District I would point out that many of the problems the district has is that the war has taken all the funds that could have been used by this district and many others. The war and the oversea transfer of jobs two things he is trying to stop have gutted this region.

While it is so easy to throw sticks and stones, the truth is he is light years ahead of most in commerce, banking, looking into the problems caused by this administration with free speech, bringing jobs to Lakewood and the region, health and food issues, and much more.

But you have to be willing to look past the Plain Dealer.

Wow Jim so now George Bush has destroyed Cleveland. What the heck, don't blame local leaders lets pass the buck.

I guess that is the easiest option since democrats have been in charge of the county for years and obviously democrats can't be blamed.

But what do I know, I am just a "right-winged Christian".
