In honor of the new seven wonders of the world and the heaviness that has overtaken the Deck as of late, I thought it would be fun to bring the concept a little more local.

If you had to name one, or all seven, of the Wonders of Lakewood, what would they be?

The Emerald Canyon
Lakewood Park Lakefront
The Schreckengost "Johnny Appleseed" (NOT the actual name...but that's what we know it as)
The Grand Reading Room at the Lakewood Public Library
Lakefront view from high atop the Winton Place
Stained Glass windows at Lakewood United Methodist Church
Higee's Chocolate Malt frozen custard at Rosatti's

Actually Jeff, when I was working on the Civic renovation years ago, I ran across a letter from Victor acknowledging that indeed it is Johnny. Several years ago I worked on the Art museum show that honored his work and I was fortunate enough to have that conversation with Victor. He again confirmed that that's Johnny. The school board decided Johnny's life was just a little too colorful for Lakewood and renamed him the "early settler".

PS You don't have to wait till it's the daily flavor (usually once a week)....Buy it by the quart. I'd buy it by the gallon, but quarts are as big as they go....

The Lakewood Observer

It's been taking a lot of crap on this board the past couple days, but this baby is still rolling strong after two years.

The amount of work put into this project is immense, and it really reflects the greatest of our town in so many ways.

1.) 100 year-old beautiful lakewood homes
2.) St. James Church
3.) Birdtown (and history)
4.) Valley
5.) Library
6.) True Lakewoodites
7.) Angelo's Pizza (the actual pizza..yummy!)

6) Christian Science Church – now renovated
7) Donato’s Pizza

I didn't include homes - but I would have fun 7+ throughout the city. I had a tough time selecting between Donato's and the Masonic Temple. It has such great architectural bones - but it needs to be renovated just like the Christian Science Church

JMHO.

The seven plus places that we used to go to "make out". (Can anyone guess where those would be?)

I think they only have that flavor on Wednesdays and Sundays so you may want to call ahead.
