Thank you to everyone that puts on the 4th of July celebration for Lakewood. I get to help with one small part, The Lakewood Project performance, and must take the time to thank some of the special people who make this happen.

Dave Seaman and his staff from the Parks Department for always responding to our needs throughout the day.

Melissa Garrett, our liason with the city, for asking us back each year.

The Lakewood Recreation Department, a great staff that helps with the strange requests throughout the day and leading up to the event. They also all take turns checking in every so often to make sure we are still standing.

The Lakewood Music boosters for their continuing support and hard work behind the scenes.

The parents of The Lakewood Project, there at the park at 8:30am to unload the trucks, back for the concert at 4:00pm to help secure the area and feed the gang, loading the trucks after the show and then back at LHS until midnight putting things away.

The students of LP for ALL of the HOURS!!! of rehearsing and preparing for the show, their energy, enthusaism and talent are AMAZING!!!
For us it is an evening of transition when some of our new members appear on stage for the first time. Sadly we also have to say good bye to our seniors, Ali, Kevin, Rob, Sam, Vicki, Sam, Alex, Rebecca, Renee, Allie, Max, Pierson, Kyle, Dom, Tom and Aaron. All of these young people will be greatly missed.

Most importantly a thank you to the Lakewood Community for all of their support.

THANK YOU to the Mayor and the Streets Dept. (and anyone else involved) for blocking off the side streets around Lakewood Park for local residents.

We heard from a resident this morning who was thrilled that the city heard their concerns and acted to keep those streets from being so dangerously congested this year.

the previous years were so much better.
but my favorite event was the parade, it was really fun.

Yesterday was great.

The parade was fun, as it always is.

The Lakewood Project concert was fabulous. Some of our friends who had never heard them before were amazed by how fantastic they were.

The only let down of the day was the fireworks show. It really seemed to lack the grandeur it has in years past, but even still it was fun.

Thanks again to all involved in making the 4th of July my favorite day in Lakewood!

They really need to close Edgewater between Nicholson and the Park. That cars were driving back there trying to park at 9:30 pm was dangerous and stupid.

I thought the fireworks were fine, but I limit my experience with fireworks to once or twice a year, so I have not been jaded by excess. It was really a great experience and having so many people jam the streets and no one get seriously injured is an amazing thing. Congrats to all of us ...

I thought the fireworks show felt a bit long (they could have made it a good 10 minutes shorter and gone right to the finale), but the family really enjoyed them. In fact, the entire day made me feel really good about Lakewood to counter a lot of the crap that I've been reading on the forums the past few weeks.

If this show was a downer from previous years then they must have been pretty spectacular. Still, all I could see was tax dollars being burned

That is a good question. Does Lakewood pay for the entire fireworks display or is it also funded by corporate sponsors? I could have sworn we had sponsors, but I could be completely wrong.

Bryan, I don't know for sure, but as I recall the PD showed a couple days ago what each city puts out for their shows. I believe Lkwd showed $30,000 and not sponsored. That's going by memory, so if you believe me you are taking a chance... I wonder if this is correct.

As far as the show not being that great, that's the way it is. Some years they are amazing and some years they're a bit slow. Maybe next year will be better.

Does anybody know if the city uses the same company each year? Do they put out bids? How do they chose a company?

Was anybody there the year they went off on the ground? How about the July 4th storm - 1969 I think?

I was at the park when the fireworks went into the crowd - sitting with the Hiltys, right up front. I never sat up front after that.

While I wasn't at the park 7/4/69, I was out in that storm.

I'd geezer gab about it, but I try not to. Those aren't things you forget.
