Howdy!
Anyone know any sources for tutors in Lakewood? We have looked at the free ones at Cleveland State but that is a hassle on a weeknight. Lakewood Schools didn't have any good sources, oddly enough (granted, we haven't asked a lot of people but their help line was no use).
Any local ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Ciao!

Phil,
Were I you, I would begin with the child's classroom teacher. Ordinarily, just about all schools have some mechanism in place for limited staff or peer tutoring before, during, or after school times.
If this does not help, ask the principal who they've used in the past.
Failing that, the Board of Education probably has a list of tutors.
I'm sure you'll find some help before long. Your child is not the first to have these concerns.
Speaking generally, if a child seems to experience undue difficulties, the parent has the right to call for a multi-factored assessment, in order to determine more about the situation. This will be done at no charge to the parent.

Thanks for the advice, Gary. We have done a bunch of this already, especially with in-school help. We have had meetings, assessments and so on. She is getting (or was, anyway...working on finding if it is continuing) a fair amount of extra help with some other teachers. She is showing progress but not nearly enough to keep up with her work. Her tests show she should not only be at grade level, but in some areas far above. We have clues as to why but while we are pursuing those fronts we still just need basic ed stuff outside of school. Board of Ed didn't have what we need (granted, we haven't dug deep) but with so many parents that read this site I thought maybe a few might have a tutor or two that they could recommend. A tutor a school recommends can be a cool bet but a parent who has trusted their child to a tutor and recommends them is a whole other piece of reassurance.
Thanks!

For anyone interested, I found that the only place to get a list was from Linda Turk at (216) 529-4201. She was able to get a list to me immediately. Sadly, Hayes itself didn't maintain a list.
Ciao,
