Could the police problem be this simple.

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

One comment I have heard is that there are problems with the computer systems in the cars sending information to the main base.

For $500 here is the answer.

Runs OSX, talks with any computer through thee web, digital camera, GPS, and mapping software, easy to use, and even holds music.

Elegant would be the understatement.

Why can't they have laptops with wifi?

I know everything costs money. So do elaborate paint jobs that mimic Linndale. Maybe replace some of the police cruisers with Segways or ZAP bicycles.

A laptop does not have a camera, GPS and unless an Apple the ability to trade info with all computers. These phones also grab WiFi on the fly with no need to locate a system manually. I predict the Observer WiFi will be launched before the city. But then I know when ours will be launched.

If you can launch it within 10 years, you may be first in Lakewood. I used to think Lakewood (the city itself, not the government) was pretty progressive and urban from a technological perspective, but I was wrong.

I believe Verizon and others offer their wireless for $79 or so a month, with the purchase of a cell fone and two year agreement...seems a little steep, but would be useful for some business travelers.

Even Philadelphia has now gone live with wifi.

I think the Observer can do better.

But when?
