A Creative Idea

A letter to the editor in this morning's PD suggested that instead of our Senators and Congressman meeting and residing in DC with large staffs and second residences, they move home and have offices in the federal bldgs closest to their districts. This would enable them to keep regular hours, keep connected to their constituents, and be available to their constituents. It would be more difficult for special interests to hold secret meetings and it would certainly be less cost effective for lobbyists.

To take his idea a step further. From a national security standpoint, it would be much harder to wipe out our government if they were stationed all over the country.

In this day of electronic media that can connect the Congress via phone, e-mail. satellite video and so on there is no reason to have them all in one place...EXCEPT for the benefit of Special Interest groups. Heck, even THEY don't always gather when people are doing their long and boring speaches. Ususally when I have peeked in on CSPAN people are speaking to a nearly empty hall.

Sign me up for this idea.

How would they vote when there's a quorum call?

Electronically?

Uh-oh!
