I searched to see if a thread may have already been posted, yet couldn't locate one. I just read the story and have - so far - viewed 48 of the 98 photos.

Way to go, Lakewood!

I wish the article had been longer; there's nothing similar in my area and just luv! that Lakewood has such a park.

The photos are so adorable, as well. I have a few favorites, but... all the doggies are so cute and many look as if they're having so much fun socializing. Yep, even doggies need socialization .

As I was viewing the photos, I thought: Captions would be good too . (I thought of a few.)

But... I really enjoyed the article and being able to see the pics.

Let me know your captions and I would love to put them on my photos..It was great fun taking the pictures...one on my favorite things to photograph!

Send them to me and will be glad to post with the pictures...Have fun with it...When I input the pictures it takes so long that by the time i get done....captions are the last thing I think of..so go for it..it will be fun!!

Hee hee, this will be fun . Shall I send them by PM? It will take me about a day to do; I'll cite the captions with the corresponding photo numbers.

Why the story - and photos - caught my eye... well, I have a poochlet, too, and every summer, since there isn't such a swim day around , she gets a toddler pool and loves it!

I'll edit out these links later, since I don't want them picked up and indexed in search engines...

One of my neighbor's brought over a gift, and poochlet kept her eye on it. When she "camped" near it, I decided to let her help.

Okay Anne....I give. What exactly is a "Poochlet"? I mean I've heard of labradoodles, peekapoos, poogles, but you've got me stumped.

Jeff, given your bright mind and accute wit, you don't know the term poochlet. Man, you gotta get with the times, dude . It's a term of endearment... akin to doggie.

My poochlet is 9, but everywhere she ventures, people ("strangers") keep calling her a puppy. She is not a puppy... well, she will "never grow up" given the bounce in her gait and her puppy-soft hair.

What's that make her??? A poochlet .

She's 9 but doesn't envision herself as such. She has no concept of her stature when next to kitty cats, and goes flat on a floor. She doesn't quite seem to know: She is larger than a kitty. Inside? She is the same as when she came to live with me at 8 weeks. She bounces, she's playful ...

That's a poochlet, Jeff .

Ohh, sorry, Black's has yet to include it in it's line-up of definitions. Give 'em time in the editorial dept. and ... you'll find poochlet .

I gotta better one for you, Jeff, and let me toss a Q. back to you:

When you were studying a plethora of subjects in college and advanced schooling, didn't you embark (pun may be intended given the subject) also in rhetoric and linguistics?

Soooo, poochlet isn't a breed. It's a blend .

This is only the second year that the Doggie Swim has been hosted at one of Lakewood's two public pools.

Other suburbs have done this and there was some lobbying to get it done here. Some people travel from pool to pool to participate in these events.

I went to a meeting a while ago & the Director of Public Works very enthusiastically told me that the event had been scheduled and everyone was looking forward to it. It was good to see that level of support!

I'm always surprised at how many people come just to watch the dogs swim, but then it's a very joyous event and a good fundraiser.

As my wife likes to say, "Words are his life"......so, in the sense of "splitting hares", you are of course absolutely correct. The "blends" to which I referred, are not AKC recognized, and as such are not "breeds"....but that doesn't stop the seller of Labradoodle pups from commanding prices of a grand or more! I suppose it's because the pups are such poochlets.

With those clarifications in mind, I'm looking forward to a relaxing evening with a good cigar, a bourbon, and MY pooch (no "-let" for Guinness. Newfies object to diminutive terms).

DL, that is so cool how the Swim Day evolved and that people visit the events in more than just one area .


Okay, Jeff, if we wanna wax all precise, my poochlet is an American Brittany Spaniel; her father took Westminster (championship) one year for doggies in their breed and landed the cover of the breed's magazine; and, her sister was a dual champ (Westminster and some doggie show-off event in Canada). She comes from a family of show-offs.

My doggie? A fine friend, indeed. I was interviewed for well over 3 hours before I could even take a peek at the pups - to assist the "breeders" (more like caregivers, actually) in facilitating the pups in choosing who might be enabled to take them to new homes.

Something happened in-between all the times I visited her (until she was 8-weeks-old) when she snuggled and fell asleep with her head on my shoulder: Once she got in the car and snuggled to go to sleep, she had an asthma attack. Yep, my poochlet has asthma and allergies. Only one of her litter with such - and with pancreatitis.

Her AKC name (which I will edit out later - for privacy's sake) is: Princess (edited out). I had wanted to name her: (edited out) but it has too many characters for the AKC form.

And... hence, as I read you post, Jeff, I duly noted that your dog Guinness is a Newfie . Hmmm .

This thread is heading down uncharted waters!!!!
