Lakewood Firefighters called to Rocky River

Post by dl meckes »

I've had reports this morning that a section of Old Detroit Road in Rocky River is burning.

Initial reports indicate that the block on the south side of Old Detroit Road, across from Charles Scott, is on fire.

This area includes the Clock Shop, the old post office, etc.

I don't know if Westlake Cab is affected.

Evidently firefighters from neighboring cities have been called in to assist the Rocky River Fire Department.

DL--- A first hand inspection showed a lot of flashing lights, Rocky River's finest directing traffic. But no fire.

I guess Rocky River calls out the whole West Shore for something that Lakewood Fire Depatment could EASILY handle with a pick up truck and a fire extinquisher.

There was quite a lot of thick, black smoke as I drove on Lake earlier. I could smell it, too.

By the time I drove up Linda to Detroit to find the source of the smoke, the police already had detroit blocked. I heard people on the street say it was a building on Old Detroit and that some people were forced out of their apartments.

My brother and his girlfriend live in the apartments that were on fire. Luckily their actual apartment didn't catch, but the firemen broke down the door because their little dog was inside.

so there definitely was a fire there, it was in the apartments.

How close was it to the fire on Linda a few weeks back? Seems strange. Fires are a rare incident. Gotta have some arson investigators scratching their heads.
