The Observation Deck

The air is horrible tonight. I took my son down to the skatepark and thought it was the lake. I came home and it smells here too. My parents are on Giel it smells over there. The smell reminds me of living near the water treatment plant but I didn't think the smell would travel this far. I hope it doesn't last much longer because this is awful.

It is smelly...I heard on the news that it has something to do with the lake and it is also affecting the water supplies. Ours is a weird yellow-ey color. The water dept said it was afe to drink, but not to wash clothes in.

I forgot, at 5AM this morning the water was yellow. The cold water that is. The hot water that had been sitting in my tank was still clear. I wonder what's up....

If the water isn't safe to do laundry in and has a yellow color to it...

A neighbor of ours called (we are on Northland, S. of Hilliard) and the city is looking into it. I smelled it as far out as Home Depot tonight, the other end of the city. Another neighbor said he smelled it downtown earlier. Supposedly it has nothing to do with the water, which I heard was "overtreated" and thus the color. I guess the thought is it won't hurt you but it might bleach the clothes or react funny with the detergent.

Here is hoping the lake didn't just go belly up at once!

Thanks for letting me know I wasn't losing my mind. I agree with Suzie that we won't be drinking it. I put some in a glass and it does look weird. Hopefully it will be ok in the next day or so.

Thanks for mentioning this.....thought I was nuts....or that someone was neglecting her personal hygiene.

And I never heard of being able to drink water yhou couldn't wash your clothes in. Sounds backwards.

I was working in downtown Cleveland today. At lunchtime I ate outside and thought it was a perfect day. At 6:30pm the instant I walked out I asked people what was that smell.

It seems like a stale Lake smell. I hoped it wasn't me.

Winds were shifted out of the North East as the Wind Mill clearly indicated. That's a rare direction for our wind to be blowing. Maybe that is just bringing the scent of the Lake to us quicker than we are used to and moving some stale water usually stuck in one corner out and over to another.

That explanation is as good as any.

Seems like it's gone now. What a beautiful morning.

Went on a bike ride through the Metroparks last night. The water treatment plant by the Dog Park was especially ripe. I'm not smart enough to know what that means, but I'm sure things will be back to normal shortly.

I'm sure you've all heard by now but I'll post it anyway. The lake is experiencing a phenomenon and lakeside communities from Avon to Painsville are affected.
