I just received the report on the number of section 8 units in Lakewood.

The people at CMHA were very helpful. I apologize for doubting their willingness to provide the information.

There are a total of 443 section 8 housing units in Lakewood according to this report. I was told that the report lists all type of units, doubles, singles and multi family.

There are about 28,000 housing units in Lakewood.

Dan Slife and I will examine the numbers. We may ask the City for information on police and EMS calls for a cross section of section 8 units. I don't see any reason to publisize the addresses of the units.

I was told they do not do a rent reasonableness study. They inspect every unit and determine a market rate for that unit. Some doubles may rent for $800 and others for $575.

Thanks for the information! Does this report compare numbers of units for other cities or only Lakewood?

Bill when you and Dan Slife review them, could you break out how many are in senior citizen buildings like Fedor Manor, Lakeshore Tower and the Westerly? or similar Senior buildings.

How many are people on Social Security may be harder 62 years of age or older. (This may be a harder number to find.) How many are handicapped? One of the large apartments in the West End has a very large number of handicapped individuals

I believe, and I could be wrong that more than half of your list are senior citizens or handicapped indivudals and that is not the section 8 that many are afraid of.
