This morning I while watching the news I see a little blurb on the Dog Park and about complaints from Rocky River residents.

The channel 5 crew spoke to an ex council person, that claimed they never thought it would be a problem. Then they went to the Rocky River homes nearest the dog park and ask if there was any problems, EVERYONE said no. Then a quote from Assistant Law Director Tom Corrigan was "We might have to move the dog park."

As they closed down the report, they mentioned that the complaints numbered 6. Six complaints in over a year, and people think it is a problem. Or think it might warrant the expense of moving the dog park.

As a wise old Lakewoodite once said, "Rocky River? It's over there, not here." If we move the dog park, could we please ask Rocky River to pay for the move?

I spoke to Tom Corrigan today and it appears he was misquoted. I'll allow him to elaborate for himself.

However, as a longtime Dog Park board member I have grown tired of the repeated attacks on our park by a very small group of out-of-towners.

The city conducted extensive sound testing of the park two years ago over an 11-day period, and found no noises that violate city ordinance. For those of us that are regular users, this came as no surprise.

Naturally, the mass media enjoys reporting this story, because they like us at the Observer know that animal stories are popular. After all, who doesn't love seeing cute doggie pictures in the paper?

Now open for three years, the dog park has been a nice addition to the city, and along with the skate park and new lakefront access demonstrates the city's commitment to quality recreation.

The Friends of the Lakewood Dog Park has provided funds and volunteer hours to keep the park the finest in Northeast Ohio.

You might have overlooked why I posted it, and you understate the importance of the dog park.

First it was 6 calls over three years.

That the calls were Rocky River residents, and none could be found.

The interview featured one guy from Avon Lake that drives in cause he loves the dog park. This underlines the importance. What started out a simple dog park has actually become a destination. A reason for people to drive to Lakewood.

This was a none story. As much as I would like to believe it was about the pooches, some think just another part of the regional op to tear Lakewood down.

The Dog Park, The Skatepark, Lakewood Park, The Library, these our some of the coolest things around.
