Maybe I missed this discussion but what are the opinions on having a Target built on 117th? Pros, Cons?

Con: My wife will now be there every other day instead of once a week.
Pro: rather give my tax to cleveland than avon (cuyahoga rather than lorain)

We already have a Target very nearby over next to/within the new Westgate.

I would much rather have a Costco. We don't have one nearby, and I know the one in Mayfield does great business.

There is a Costco at 35804 Detroit Rd - not within walking distance, but closer than Mayfield

I knew there was one somewhere out there...but I work in Mayfield.

It still seems that 117th would be a good spot for them.

I'm very excited about Target coming to W 117th. Might spur more development all along the road including the Lakewood side...

I have mixed emotions about the Target store. We seem to be developing a substantial big-box retail area at that corner. There is easy access from I-90, relatively inexpensive real estate, and a large population center nearby.
It may draw business away from Lakewood, sapping-off money. It is also possible for the store to draw people into that area and Lakewood can pick-up some over-flow business. Is there anything that can be done to encourage this aspect? Did anybody notice that Lakewood's hardware stores all vanished after Home Depot opened?
I drove through the former neighborhood once when it was in the process of being bought-up by Target. It looked like a slum, with some people still holed-up in their houses, some houses being stripped and vandalized, and no shortage of obscene and threatening graffiti. It was creepy and frightening to have so close to my home.
Once the neighbor hood was dead, my attitude is that the sooner the next phase began, the better.

I think if anything the Target / Giant Eagle complex near 90 will spur further development all along W 117th and the general area.
