Hello,
The old Detroit Auto Body on Detroit near the fire station in between West Clifton and Kenilworth was demolished today. Does anyone know the plan for this area?

Ken--- I believe it will be the site of an expansion of the pizza shop right next door.

Parking lot for the pizza shop.

Kind of nice having a business pay for their parking lot. Of course Donatos is a great establishment, as opposed to the punch palace and war zone known as McCarthy's!

More than simply expanding their parking lot, Donato's will be enlarging the business as well.

I like that Donatos (though I prefer Angelos any day). I love that they won an award a while back for cool modern use of a historic building. In an era where Walgreens or Medic or Rite Aid is tearing down corner stores or buildinsg to put in yet another cookie cutter drug store it is nice to see a national chain take a closer look at the community and keep some of the flavor in terms of architecture or property usage. Nicely done.

I agree with you that it is cool that Donatos used this historic building and didn't tear it down and build a cookie cutter building. I am also thankful that they maintain their property (unlike Papa John's ) down the street. However, I will not applaud them for demolishing (from outside appearances) a structurally sound Lakewood building. I guess we need to be grateful that businesses want to invest here but I would have preferred and independent business taking over the old Detroit Auto Body. I personally do not see Donatos having more parking spaces as progress. Also, Donatos pizza doesn't taste like much to me. I also prefer Angelos and Danny Boy in River.

It would have to be damn special pizza for me to cross the river for it!

I'm a big fan of Angelo's, but recently I've been hooked on Hungry Howies. Try the butter cheese crust.

I know that Donatos had some of the highest sales in the entire chain when I moved to Lakewood in 2001. They may need the extra parking just for the delivery drivers.

At least they didn't sell the building to one of those auto repair businesses that takes up all the parking meters with broken down cars.

I knew there was a group of buyers that was looking at the building for a car museum.
