Wind Energy Forum

Newburgh Heights Councilman Trevor Elkins and the non-profit Newburgh Heights Community Development Corporation have partnered with Green Energy Ohio to sponsor a Public Forum and Power Point presentation about the possibilities of community owned wind energy and its benefits.

On Tuesday, March 7th, Fletcher Miller of Green Energy Ohio will conduct a presentation designed to educate residents, elected officials, businesses and interested parties about the feasibility and availability of creating sustainable, clean and inexpensive renewable energy sources in urban environments. The forum will begin at 7pm and will be held in Council Chambers at the Village of Newburgh Heights Offices, 4000 Washington Park Boulevard.

"I am excited to host Mr. Fletcher and Green Energy Ohio on behalf of the Newburgh Heights Community Development Corporation", stated Councilman Elkins. "I hope our village can become a trend setter in saving our residents on their energy bills, cleaning up the environment and doing our small part to lessen America's dependence on foreign oil sources and toxic coal fired electricity."

This sounds great. Anyone from Lakewood Council going? Any LO folks going? I might be able to swing it and would hook up with others to kibitz.

Sadly, can't go now! Family stuff trumps civic duty stuff! If you go, give us an update. Very excited about this.

Ciao,

Phil

The meeting was amazing!

If Mr. Warren is agreeable, the Green Energy Ohio group has offered to hold a meeting here and I thought the library would be a great place.

It was amazing from so many standpoints but job creation is one of them. We looked at what was being done in the world and in the US presently. We looked at both Federal and State policies and he discussed how municipalities were doing this in the US. We discussed how co-ops were doing this in Europe.

We did look at the lake issues and the possibility of putting a wind farm in the Lake. They are currently doing wind monitoring on the crib for Cleveland. Bowling Green is doing great. Lake Farmpark I think is starting. Newburg heights has some cool ideas.

We discussed the bird population and how windmills are effecting them. Basically 1 windmill kills about 2 birds a year. The Audabon Society of New York has come out for windmills. Statistics abound regarding windmills and birds. Suffice it to say that while everything needs to be done to eliminate any harm for birds, this is not as dangerous as tall buildings, electric lines or outdoor cats.

State representatives were there as well as Foundations. I was impressed that our own Rep. Mike Skindell has some sustainable legislation pending.

I'm going to try to write this up for an article. They were kind enough to give us their notes, so that we could share.
