Zdnet, the highly respected source of everything computer, put out this link in my email, which I subscribe to. It's worth the reading, and according to the best sources on the net, all of use winXP users should use this temporary patch, then remove it with the add/install when MSoft comes out with the official one "hopefully Tuesday". Apparently the time between now and Tuesday is too long to be exposed to this worm. It's important enough to spread the word on this one.

Mark--- I just don't know what to think or do. I subscribe to the Wndows automatic update and yet I see these urgent warnings.
I think I'm just a regular poor schmuck home computer user and all these dire warnings come out.
I'm going to wait for the official patch.
Any other recommendations?

Well, in just ordinary web surfing you COULD get a site that has been tampered with, and get that worm that ZDnet is warning about. If you ONLY come to this website and your email site ONLY, then it's probably safe to not patch with this temporary patch.

The problem with these type worms, is they spread faster than anyone can think, and this one gets by all the anti-virus/anti-trojan programs by sending the worm not in one parcel but in many small packets, unrecognizable ones, so that the anti-whatever program will not recognize it as "bad" and clean it.

I host a virtual reality "chat" and there are about a quarter million users in this alternate world. Almost everyone is patching with the temporary patch, and 99% of the people online they're are just "average shmucks". too ..lol...

When the Microsoft Patch comes out, uninstall the temporary patch using Add/Remove ....before patching with Microsoft's patch.

In the middle of the article is the "get the patch here" ...and that's the place to click to install it .....but

I would create a restore point first. Click Start> Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore, and create a restore point. THEN install the temporary patch.

If ZDnet thinks its important enough for all of us to NOT wait for Microsoft, I have to go with them. They are extremely geek about computer stuff and worth their warnings.

In my humble opinion, it's worth a minute to patch up, instead of maybe losing your whole computer, so to speak.
