Council Tax Meeting?

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

A bunch of us went down to City Hall top sit in on the City Council Tax session, and the place was dark?!

While we were there a couple others pulled through also wondering what happened?

So what happened?

Found out yesterday what happened.

Tom George called and Kevin Butler wrote me to tell me that I once again had my schedule wrong! This is not a new problem for me as those who read the anniversary thread will remember.

It was nice talking with The Mayor who made a solid case for the tax hike. We both agreed that with all the ideas floating out there, that no matter what the city NEEDS the increased revenues.

I had offered to delete this thread but the mayor thought it would be better to let the discussion continue.

I just wanted to make sure readers and members knew, there was no meeting scheduled, and that there was no conspiracy.

Jim, increasing city revenues doesn't necessarily mean a tax hike. Finding more dollars doesn't necessarily mean a tax hike. I would be interested in the CitiStat report recommendations. The Citistat consultant hasn't even looked at the largest consumer of city dollars yet. The Mayor, Grow Lakewood and Lakewood City Council were very excited and optimistic about the ability of CitiStat to give Lakewood a significant boost when their assessment is complete. We've invested time and dollars in this experiment - can we just give it a chance? According to the budget, we have a year to make a decision regarding a tax hike - what's the rush? Perhaps Lakewood Alive could sponsor a public forum on the topic and information could be provided and discussed. BTW - does anyone know when the Citistat report should be ready?
